Snip! Snip!

Today I arranged for my vasectomy. I had to attend a counselling session before they'd confirm the appointment for surgery but in the end they gave me a date.

They do a good job of filtering out the people who really aren't keen. They go through all the possible risks (and there are quite a few, including one that has no fix!) ... odds of 1 in 3,000 are pretty small ... but if you end up being the 1, you hardly care about the other 2,999!

And that's before you consider the difficulties of actually getting a vasectomy if you're single: National Health Service clinics are very reluctant to carry out vasectomies unless they can be completely sure there's no partner, however casual, waiting in the wings.

Apparently, there have been lawsuits when a guy has gone off to be sterilised without telling his partner who has then complained that she had the idea that she was going to get pregnant by the snippee. Now most clinics demand that a consent form is signed by both the potential snippee and the partner.

As a small aside, I have a platonic female friend who offered to come if I needed a stand-in partner. She said she'd sit there and simply insist that if they wouldn't do the vasectomy she'd just have to "cut 'em off".

Anyway, I was finally given a date and then the nurse went on to tell me about "after-care": tight, supportive underwear, minimise standing up for a few days (I can handle that part!), painkillers and so on ... and the need to remove all the stored sperm before you can count yourself as sterile.

I have been told I should aim to ejaculate 100 times in the three months after the operation. Sounds like hard work to me ...

If anyone would like to lend me a hand with this chore ...

All credit to AlbertPrince who suggested I wrote this one up!

J... hhmmm... the Big Snip, eh? Mr Hansen had his done years ago... at his suggestion. I wasn't there to hold his hand at the time, as we were living in two different countries at the time.

Good luck... and remember these words... if you don't have a very good partner, you'd better have a very good hand. Mind you, it's apparently an old bridge saying, but it does seem pretty relevant!!

You are, Albert, a true gentleman! And if your post was removed I have to assume it was down to the Powers That Be in This Place rather to my own efforts ... I never waste a response!

Dizzy ... I can only tell you that there's no queue just yet!

Helga ... I bid six hearts (and four fingers)

A big decision. You've made a hard choice. I know what it's like under the knife down there.

Let's hope your aim is pot on lol
