Yes, it’s happened: I’ve fallen head over heels in love … with a coffee bar.

Today I found the kind of place that other coffee bars fantasise about becoming: Baristas Coffee Collective on the junction of Baldwin Street and Clare Street in Bristol.

Charming staff, old-fashioned and functional décor, newspapers liberally scattered around (not for sale as in some better-known chains) … and coffee to die for. No, let me rephrase that: coffee to live for ‒ after all, if I die I’ll not be able to drink there any more.

While, admittedly, a 4 ½ hour journey had prepared me to accept any coffee, their chocolate mocha (large, naturally) was a delight to my jaded tastebuds. Ahhhh … memories are made of this.

And to gild the lily (a misquotation from Shakespeare, by the way), they were playing Supertramp too!

Granted, the stools don’t compare with comfy sofas, especially if you’re taking coffee with that Special Someone, but if you’re in Bristol I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Me? Well, even if I didn’t have a good reason to visit Bristol (and I fervently hope to have a good reason for a very long time to come), Baristas would be a definite temptation to make up a spurious one!

Hey!! I walked past that place just yesterday... I shall have to remember to go in there, the next time I'm down in the city! Glad you liked it... and let me know the next time you're in town... I can show you a comfy couch or two!

Helga ... Really? Small world, isn't it? Tell you what, show me a comfy sofa next time I'm down and I shall drag it to Baristas! Care to join me?

Trish ... That is exactly the right response!

Heavenly ... I'd need to check my diary but it's a tempting offer

HotDev ... Do you really think I'd try balancing on a stool with Helga on my lap? Do you really think I'd have the chance to fall in love with a coffee bar if Helga was on my lap? For that matter, do you really think I'd be taking a photo inside the coffee bar if Helga was on my lap? I think I'd be a little distracted, don't you?

Albert ... Is it compulsory?

WickedWytch ... Feel free ... you seem to have a knack for it!

TexasGal ... Well, the UK still has far more coffee bars than good coffee bars but, clearly, we're making progress!
