Day Two - My Not-So-New Colleague

Have you ever worked with your partner?

I've known couples who've worked together and been utterly happy with spending virtually their entire lives together. Maybe it's just that the couples who couldn't work and live happily together don't make the mistake of trying ... or maybe the ones who can't handle it have just put a brave face on it in front of me.

I'm not sure I can imagine it suiting me.

That said, I was working with my ex (Mother of Son of Quiet) today. She's been working in the same department for the biggest part of the year and I must admit I had second thoughts (and third, fourth and fifth thoughts for that matter) when the vacancy came up. At the end of the day, though, we've managed to have a reasonably cordial, co-operative relationship since we separated ... and the job was too good to pass up.

As it turned out, it wasn't a problem for me. I think that Mother of Son was more nervous, probably because she'd already established herself there with me part of a shadowy past. Still, it was her decision to reveal our link.

No doubt some people find it strange (I know the head of department thinks it's a little bizarre ... but then that word pretty well describes my recent life in toto) but I'm determined to make it work.

We exchanged a few words in passing a couple of times and we even had lunch together today. It was all very civilised.

Mind you, I could do without a regular repeat of today's lunchtime topic of conversation: discussing maintenance payments and Son's school fees doesn't exactly help the digestion!

If you can keep your lunch time convo confined to light banter, it will almost be a modern version of a Noel Coward play.

Oh gosh! Respect! I'm my husband's accountant/secretary, but fortunately we only interract when he's home... not sure I could spend 5 days a week, 8+ hrs a day with him!!

Hx

PS. As long as there's an ex and children, those topics are going to exist... I know this as I am wife number 2!!

Love, hugs and kisses from ♥♥HH♥♥

well my husband works in the same room as me, since we both work from home, but we have different jobs... does that count? we have no problem with it, except i wish he would tidy his desk up a bit!

BB ... So that's where Fate is leading me: my new job is going to provide me with material for a light and witty comedy!

Helga ... Fortunately, I think, although we're working in the same department, we're scarcely cheek by jowl. I'm sitting in an office while she's working on the shop floor. Our paths cross more when I decide to go walkabout.

Papy ... You're a better man than me!

FreeLove ... Someone else who impresses me. It counts. Oh, yes, it counts!

Al ... You do? I thought it was yesterday's fish. I certainly don't smell reconciliation; I just hope we can maintain the ceasefire!
