And the difference is ...

I've just seen Twiggy on the TV.

How many of you know of Twiggy? Born in '49, she had a major modelling career in the Sixties on both sides of the Atlantic (this completely understates the impact she had) before deciding to pursue a movie career.

She burst onto the movie world with a lead role in Ken Russell's "The Boyfriend" but since then has mainly had small parts ... you may have seen her in "The Blues Brothers" for instance as "Chic Lady" (a character name that might give you an idea of how central a role it was).

But more recently she's ventured back into modelling and now she is on British TV screens in an advert for Marks & Spencer (with a wonderful ELO backing track by the way). And she looks gorgeous ... 56 and drop-dead gorgeous.

Except ... I happened to pass her on the streets of Chelsea last week and she looked ... well, I wouldn't want to suggest that she wasn't attractive (!) but she didn't look nearly as smooth as she did on TV. She looked much more like you'd expect a well-kept, beautiful 56 year old to look.

And there's nothing wrong with that at all. But it reminded me of a blog posted by the one-and-only BrightBlonde3 about the best approach to make-up ([post 91300]). It was generally agreed by both sexes that the light, natural look was ideal (with the possible exception of some role-playing games ... I'm sure you know what I mean, ahem).

But on the other hand it's always been said to me that the real make-up secret that any woman who can afford it would go for is ...

... a professional make-up artist.

Jx

Expat ... She does. As far as I'm concerned, the last 10 years she's looked so much better than she did in her heyday but, then, I wasn't really interested in the Sixties. You probably had to be part of that whole movement to appreciate her then.

FreeLove ... She wasn't the only one. I couldn't even begin to really describe her impact in that short piece above ... but she was probably the first of her kind, a supermodel before anyone coined the term, a brand.

Al ... She did not, sir ... but then it was dark that night and we've both changed a lot over the years. Best we don't talk about it though

Q, what role-playing games would these be? Pirate and wench? Nurse and doctor? Lady of the evening and (fill in the blank)? Supermodel and Quiet Guy?
