One of those days...
One of those days...
Went to bed around 3 AM last night, woke up around 8 AM to the smell of smoke, kind of a burning grass smell. I got up and wandered around the house looking for something on fire but didn't find anything so I went back to bed and went back to sleep.
I had this strange dream where I found myself out in a farm field next to a long two-lane farm road that went straight over rolling hills as far as you could see with mostly fields along the road although there were occasional patches of trees.
The road went north-south, to the east one of the patches of trees was on fire and it was spreading to the fields. The crops were mostly a dry grass crop of some sort like wheat and the flames were heading our way. I looked north up the road and there were fires there too and they were spreading, I looked south, fires there too. And they were all spreading and seemed to be coming our way.
There were other people there too, I said, "we're trapped here, we gotta find some water", and in dream magic a pond appeared across the road which we all headed for and jumped in. But then I said, "But we still have to breath", I think I was first thinking we could just duck under the water as the fire came over.
At that point I woke up and it was almost 9:30 and time to get up.
After getting shaved and showered and getting the kids ready to go we all went to the post office to retrieve mail (I run a business out of my home so a post office trip is a daily ritual), and then stopped at 7-11 to see if I won anything in the LOTTO (the most I've ever won at one time is $7),
and then went and got my car smog checked, and then haircuts for the kids and myself as we were all starting to resemble sheep dogs.
The smog check was interesting, first time I had to have it done on this vehicle and they didn't stick anything up the tailpipe. Instead they make sure the gas tank isn't leaking pressure and they connect up to the cars computer and download status information. If the computer says everything is working they send you on your way. This is completely different than for older vehicles where they check CO and hydrocarbons at idle and on a dynamometer. The new method seems really nonsensical since they're trusting the car to check itself. One would think it would create a market for hacked computer chips that tell you everything is OK even if you're oozing liquid gasoline out the tailpipe.
Then we went to Zesto's for lunch, I generally try to avoid beef in part because of mad cow concerns but more because it just makes me feel lousy, tired, no energy, and sometimes constipated. I like a good burger but it usually just isn't worth it but today I succumbed and get a burger dip, 1/2 pound worth of meat. Nasty, especially since I didn't go to the gym and exercise last night. But it did taste yummy.
Then I made my daily call to GoodGuys to see if anybody has even started working on my camera yet. I bought a Minolta DImage Z1 there Nov of '03 and paid for a three year extended warrantee, and just as the weather finally turned decent here it broke.
So I took it in to GoodGuys to get it fixed under warrantee and they tell me 4-6 weeks, so when I get my camera back, summer, and girls in bikini's, will be all gone. I am SO annoyed with them so I am calling them daily hoping sooner or later it will become less painful for them to fix it and get it back to me than to have to talk to me every day.
I'll post some pictures here as soon as I get it back, well, I might post some old images before then. I wish this place would let me post URL's, I've got a bunch up on my web site but don't want to have to maintain them in both locations, still I'd like to be able to show you folks my photos.
