Petra Conference [Obey the Mistress Moth!]

. . .

I am fascinated by Petra. In Petra are the remains of an ancient city and tombs, all carved into the cliff walls of a deep gorge. I crave to visit there and spend many hours quietly walking among the monumental ruins. I also hesitate because of the area of the world that Petra is in...the kingdom of Jordan, smack-dab in the Middle East. I have no religion, and I know that bothers a lot of Muslims [and a helluva lot of Christians too], and damn, that area just keeps bubbling over into mayhem. Jordan is one of the calmer nations in the region, and I greatly admire King Abdullah II. One of the many reasons that I hold this man in such esteem is the Petra Conference of Nobel Laureates and the Nobel Laureates Initiative.

"Co-hosted by The Elie Wiesel Foundation and His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Conference brought together Nobel Laureates of Peace, Economics, Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Physiology & Medicine with distinguished social and political leaders. The theme of the first Petra Conference in May 2005, A World in Danger, focused on the role of education in combating global injustice."

Can you imagine spending the weekend with all those fabulous minds in such an awe-inspiring place? I can...
