Cars - what are we feeding our kids?

Ok saw the movie cars with my kids at w/e...and what a range of deep messages..

There was the usual 'better to work with the team' message and the 'crossing the line first is not the only way to win ' message. But you kinda expect that kind of moralising.

What i didnt expect was a series of messages on mans idiocy and 'zenless' urge for progress. This was delivered beautifully through a romantic longing for the old route 66 which they referred to as 'the mother road' through out the movie. This was the old road left behind when the new interstate carved through teh mojabi desert. A bit like calling the old n4 through sleepy enfield ...the mother road. The movie is mainly set in a lil town on route 66 and the demise of the town is lamented.

So the good folks at pixar are giving our progeny some good messages folks...about progress not necessarily being made when u cut 10 mins off a road trip...and maybe the next generation will get this concept!

Don't you think there's a paradox though that the movie was funded and made by a bunch of Hollywood billionaires who do/have done whatever it takes to scramble to the top of the greasy pole? Surely just hypocritical tuning in to the zeitgeist?
