World Cup Soccer

I know that most will not understand but I have to admit that I am in no way a soccer fan. I have never been able to see the enjoyment of the game and I know that puts me in the minority among the rest of the people of the world. I can live with that though. I'm secure enough in myself. lol

One of the things I've noticed though, and for some reason it really gets under my skin, is all the foreign flags everyone is flying all over town and on their cars. Everyone is so quick to proclaim that they are French, Dutch, Spanish, Croatian, German ... I even saw one today with not one but TWO american flags on it.

I guess this kinda pisses me off because I don't see anyone flying Canadian flags. Now, I know that Canada isn't in the world cup so that is why I don't see any but why don't I see any during the rest of the year? I do see other nations flags being flown on cars year round but I want to see Canada's.

We live in one of the best, if not THE best country in the world but everyone still shows their allegence to where they are from and not where they are now.

Why is that? Are we too embarassed to be proud to be Canadian? Is it just our nature to be understated towards Canada? I already know that we don't insist firmly enough that people integrate into Canadian culture when they move here. Then again, we can't even define Canadian culture.

It's just frustrating. I've been serving in the Army too long to not be able to understand why people don't should Canada from the roof tops.
