Is there anything worse then a 13 year old daughter?

Boy, am I the mean one. My 13 year old made plans with a friend to go and see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie friday, the day it opens here in town. Did she ask us

I told her that she could go and see it but that she would be waiting a week and now the tears have started.

"My friend will hate me if I can't go"

"All my friends are going to see it"

"You never let me do anything"

I've about heard it all in the last hour or so and I'm about ready to SNAP!!!

It must be the age. I'm supposed to rubber stamp all of her decisions. I'm supposed to pay for it too and I'm the heavy when I try to be a parent.

Sometimes I just want to walk away from it all. It gets to be more then I can handle.

My advice...stick to your guns, kids just have to face the fact they can't always get what they want, but I do think when the dust settles maybe talk with her and explain what your reasons were...or perhaps plan some special fun time with her. You also have to remember she's a new teen with peer pressure and just wants to have friends...friends are their world at that age. Don't let your stress come between both of you...keep communication open and she will always be confident to talk with you. Tell her before she makes the plans it all has to be discussed first. She will get over it...just hug her and tell her it will be fine. It's so hard for parents because it's scarey messed up world teens face these days...but so hard for them too because they are growing up.
Good Luck!
