Have you ever been called a snob by somebody ?..........my ex always thought I was a snob

Here is the Merriam-Webster definition of snob.

Main Entry: snob
Pronunciation: 'snäb
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
1 British : COBBLER
2 : one who blatantly imitates, fawningly admires, or vulgarly seeks association with those regarded as social superiors
3 a : one who tends to rebuff, avoid, or ignore those regarded as inferior b : one who has an offensive air of superiority in matters of knowledge or taste

I had a conversation with my ex today. She called me a snob. There are certain types of people I dont really care to associate with in our society. Does that make me a snob ?? I am a loner, so if I am going to associate with anybody, it is going to be a certain kind of person.

I will avoid people who are drug users, alcoholics, racists, chain smokers, animal abusers or a combination of these things.

My definition of an animal abuser includes people who hurt or kill animals for sport.

I also consider myself to be very intelligent, so it is very hard to me to relate to people who, for example, think that smoking cigarettes and eating red meat are good for your health.

Any snob stories ?

I think it's okay to want to hang with people who believe what you believe. Just a thought though, you may miss out on knowing some incredible people just because they smoke or eat meat. (Not the abusers though, that's just messed up!) Even addicts have redeeming qualities, they may just need help to become whole again.

At the risk of sounding condescending...Yes I believe that you're a snob. That does'nt make you a bad person though. To each his own, live and let live, whatever floats your boat, (and any other bullshit cliches' I've left out). I think we've all been guilty of snobbish behavior from time to time. No one is perfect.

I have good taste, am highly educated (you don't need a BA to have an education!), and have developed a taste for the finer things in life (cheeses, wines, 70% cocoa chocolate...). I expect people to behave like adults, show basic courtesy and be able to spell correctly.

YES, dammit, I AM a snob.

I also enjoy cheesy movies...

My ex was referring to me avoiding certain kinds of people.

But we all do that.

Thanks for your comment.

The smoking and the red meat thing was an inside joke. I have a weird sense of humour.

I eat red meat the odd time. I do not smoke though.

I was really talking about people that smoke non stop.

Alcoholism runs in my family, so I do not tolerate it around me at this point in my life.

Thank you for your comment.

I am NOT one of these guys who drinks fine wine and cheese and eats grey po upon.

I do not hang out in art galleries or attend the ballet or the opera.

I do not care what I look like in real time sometimes.

I do spell perfectly.

That part about the red meat was a joke.

I eat red meat myself the odd time.

My family was a NON smoking family.

The majority of my mothers relatives smoked......some of them till the day they died.

I will still talk to you.

Thank you Karma and DBG for your comments.

I guess I'm a snob then.

I tend to associate with people who are intelligent, but also edgy.

I don't like most of the Popular Bloggers because their material just doesn't satisfy the intelligent requirement for the most part.

I do eat red meat.

Nothing like a 32oz. sirloin steak cooked rare....

I dont eat anything rare.

It has to be dead before I eat it.

Everybody has different tastes when it comes to blogs.

If the person just posts games and fantasies, you will never see me make a comment on that blog.

I don't hang out in art galleries, they're too damn boring. Bookstores, however...

That is one thing I do miss around here.

A decent bookstore.

We have a library, but they are no major outfit.

Many of their books are outdated, for example, anything about technology.

It seems as if you are a bit argumentative as well. Ha ha.

I think there are more snobs out there than yo may think - if that is what people choose to give as the label.

Why do you care anyway?
