Women and Purses

I bet I've spent at least the last couple of months in the office witnessing the Great Purse Melodrama going on with the other women.

While I am busy punching away numbers and adjusting figures in the computer, these girls are standing around at times....comparing them...admiring them...complaining about them...wishing for different ones...speculating about how much they cost...where to get the designer ones for cheaper...what they can carry vs. what they cannot...who has the prettiest/most fashionable/most durable one...case histories of purses: past, future, and present...

One woman was ECSTATIC when her husband received a brand new designer bag of some sort for free a few weeks back for purchasing a new water heater for their home. It was as though she had been presented with an Academy Award..

Another young gal was heartbroken and practically in tears when her fashionable green Gucci bag (worth over two hundred dollars, she did not fail to bewail...) threw a shoulder strap on the way to work this morning!

You would think PURSES hold their attention much longer than their men they date/are married to.

All the while my same silly little black clutch sits in my drawer and accompanies my side at all times. It carries all I need (credit cards, drivers license, spare change, seven lipsticks, stamps, and a pic of someone special), and I'll be goshdarned if I ever even gave a thought as to where it came from or how much it costed. I simply use one until somehow the thing rips or breaks or suffers a fatal wine/beer spill. Then I just grab the next thing available (usually something out of the closet I got from my mother years ago and never needed until now...)

So imagine the irony of deciding to open one of my Christmas gifts a little early.....and finding a new purse!!!!!!!!

I will keep my wallet, until I am embarrased to show it....I hate to buy those things.......but I own 10 pocket knives......And cameras!!!!...let me tell you about my cameras!!!!

You sound like my kind a girl..Tammy!!...I hate it when a woman spends 45 minutes frantically looking for something in her purse, when "we could be doing something else"!!

Ah, yes - purses. I will never ever own an expensive one. Currently I am still in a post-surgery phase and unable to carry my regular one (a blue jean bag with LOTS of pockets) so I resorted to my purse from highschool - purple leather with long fringe, that has those beads on every other piece of fringe.

I've discovered that once you're a mom you're cursed forever, feeling obligated to carry everything short of the kitchen sink. I should be on Let's Make A Deal - I bet anything Monty Hall asked for at this point I could whip out of my blue jean purse.

I do have a friend who will have nothing - and I mean NOTHING - but Prada. We get along well because we are total opposites.

My wife is a purse fanatic; in fact my b-day gift for her is an $800 one that she pointed out to me. I can’t remember the designer, I just remembered long enough to by it. Needless to say she has been very nice this week,,,wink wink,,,, in anticipation of her b-day.
This AM on NPR there was a piece about how it is possible to lease/rent expensive purses. What’s next?
So not only do us flirting boys need to learn shoe & clothes designs & designers,,,now we need to complement women on their purses. You girls will never make it easy,,,

No one around this year to give me another necktie (I rarely wear them) or some cheap cowhide wallet (I'll never use it). I prefer the nylon with velcro closure wallet to carry my operator's license, insurance card, credit cards, medical information, a few business cards and pictures of family members dear to me. Glad I wasn't born a female. You ladies seem to have too much upkeep to keep your spare time busy, and way too many decisions about clothing, shoes, and as you have described, purse selections.

Blue jeans, golf shirts or button down short sleeve shirts are my simple daily attire, and several shorts for the warm season. I have too many unused ties hanging in my closet that are retrieved for funerals, the occasional wedding invitation, and the rare times that I feel the urge to dress up. Glad I don't have to polish my finger or toe nails, pluck my eyebrows, don makeup daily, put curlers in my hair and spend to many minutes brushing it. Glad my daily selection of attire doesn't include what pant suit or what dress and blouse, sweater, etc. and what shoes do/don't match the outfit of choice and whether to wear stockings or not. My greatest decision is whether I wear jeans for the day or Docker slacks and t-shirt, golf shirt, or semi-dress shirt. Before retirement, I didn't have to choose ... I wore the same uniform to work every day.

Complements to you for spending your valueable time on greater decisions than which purse to select today!
