I'm having a day off!!

Strange weather today a northerly wind and the temperature is sitting in the high 20's. As the day goes on apparently the wind will go around to the west. That means we are in for a humongous storm, during the last few nights the lightning displays in the skies at night have been awesome.

I can sit and watch lightning for hours, the best is in the Northern Territory that I have seen. Wow, just now the wind has reay started to gust it won't be long and I will be shutting up the windows. The local football season starts today as well and I was going to go but now I am in two minds. Part of me wants to bunker down and enjoy a wild day and night of nature venting her fury alone and the other is to go and be sociable outdoors and actually stand around with friends and experience the elements at the game.

There is so much tension in the air i can feel the electricity that pervades the atmosphers and to combine that with watching football will be fun. This just make sme feel so alive at the minute. I think I will drive up to the Cape and watch the ocean build up and unleash her power upon the cliffs and reefs for a while, maybe even venture out onto the ocean beachfront outside of the protection of the bay and see how huge the seas are getting.

It is pretty spectacular isn't it Tala, when a storm keeps you up (and believe me the noise is phenominal generated by our storms) then you can enjoy the light display as the rain thunders a symphony on the roof....and the frog's sing the chorus!

I do miss those Terrirory storms Wyvern, this day is just getting weirder is is 5pm now and it is dead calm yet there is a smothering blanket of heat and the sun is going down so it should get cool really fast. I skipped the footy and stayed home working on my stuff. I think it is a night of reflecting and relaxation, at this stage anyway.

Tala, know what you mean, I was once shipwrecked in a yacht traveling through he Torres Strait by a fast building storm, we were lucky that we were picked up quite quickly and delivered to Dawin. It’s a spectacular part of the world especially when its stormy

Yes and then there are the cyclones! They take storms to another level where I'd rather be somewhere else. Being shipwrecked in the Torres Strait, I can think of better ways to be on or in the water. For a guy whose whole family are fishermen I just don't like it at all, the idea of being lunch is not my idea of work hazards.

yeah the north isn't too kind to those who visit I must say, but it is beautiful in its fury....

most sensible people here don't go on or in the water....if the sharks don't get you the crocs will, if the crocs don't get you the stingers will,

then there is always the likes of tracy, thelma and ingrid!

This is fantastic, the weather has finally broken it took almost 24hrs! I can honestly say it was similar to the Wet Build-up here during that time. One thing I do not miss from the NT. Woke up this morning to the sound of rain on the roof it is steady and not a downpour it is going to soak all day! Yes Bella nothing like standing in the rain, in fact I walked down the street in it this morning instead of driving. Who needs to play in the puddles that means you have to wait for the rain to have fallen. No I am not going hippy, I just love the place I live in.

Expat I am glad you reminded me. There is a catagory for people like you, "Yachties" I have many friends who have done this, it is amazing that there is a whole community of people out on the oceans of the world sailing around. I do not think that people realise how important it is for the 'Yachtie' culture to exist. I am going to leave the story telling to you expat, glad that you have a blog, mate.

Footnote; Australians are very moralistic and prudish people what could you expect from a people who refer to their country as 'Godsown'. Of course in the name of righteous morality I am trying to organise a tour and shows up North to do some meditation on stuff with Wyvern, coz SHE HAS NOT SHOWN ME A PIC OF HER SENSATIONAL ARSE YET!!

Tracy, Thelma and Ingrid sure gave great blow jobs. I lost my couzin in Cylclone Bobby when his ship was caught at sea. Lomg story and the epitomy of how tradgedy can happen when dickhead paper shufflers try to manage nature like a factory floor workplace for health and safety. Have still not gone to the WestCoast and the town of Onslow where there is a memorial to him and his crew yet. Just do not think that even though 8 years have passed that I will not do something stupid while there. Still it was good to see some heads roll after the inquiry and cover-up were revealed. Some fucking bastards do get their just deserts in the end. I am very happy that I was on the other side of the country and did not get near the place then and on writing this even now realise it is still a sore spot, the positive is that I find it very motivational for me to do good things.

I am happy to hear that there was some form of justice for your cousin in the end. Such a pity when sensless death occurs.

As for your storms, well we get some fierce ones here too. We call em Carolina gulleywashers! I still remember one particular storm about 6 years ago. The lightning was so frequent and so close that I could not get my daughter home from the neighbors house a few doors down for almost 3 hours. I had never seen such fury linger for so long. The lightshow was fantastic, but very frightening too.

'Carolina gulleywashers', y'know there is something in the aussie mindset that we do not have many place name idioms?! The literary heads are always making statements that we are having 'our' culture subverted by 'foriegn' influences. I personally think that this is B/S. As we have a policy of multiculturalism this in its own right means we accept other culture as our own. I think half the time it is just people complaining because their chosen culture is not popular in the mass media and getting as much recognition as they want it too.

Tala, sorry for the quip on Tracy, Thelma and Ingrid I had no idea they were cyclones and condolances on you loss, but those are the risks that people who choose to go to sea take as long as those risks are not increased fore the sake of profit margins (been there, read the book). Anyway I hope I didnt offend on that.
As for multiculturalism, Canada does that too, I personnly think that it hinders a country finding a national focus, I mean Canadian Mounties in Turbans! I am not a biggot and each to their own but you dont have to change tradition to suit politics.
Thats my rant for the morning. WOW how did your post on Lightning end in multiculturalism. LOL

Expat no offence ever taken here by me. Yes, those that go to sea in little ships know the score and the loss is gone I just occaisionally remember it and rekindle the inspiration it gives me. Just goes to show that a rambling discourse is still the most fruitful one, mind you I have it on good authority that I have trouble sticking to the subject. Finding a national focus for a country, now ythat is a huge topic especially for us younger nations there is nowhere left to invade ain't that a bitch! If you do find somewhere everyone else want to have their two bobs worth as well. I think that every year the UN should have a designated invasion nation and everyone can go there and have a crack at it. WTF am I thinking today?!!!!

Expat,The rest of the world doesn't know this but the Kiwi's have been invading Oz for years and virtually run our country at the moment. Clever buggers they are they figured it out that Australians are so busy playing sport, having public holidays for horse races and takoing sickies that we would never get around to fighting back! Just when we start to get some time available in our busy social schedules the Kiwis send over the All Blacks, Russell Crowe or their cricket team and we forget about it again. *Y* (Y) happyf; and happym; = >>!
