The Passion Of The Liberal: Thou Shalt Not Punish The Perp

I'm on to Chapter 2 in Ann Coulter's new book, and I'm loving it! Michael Panter, a New Jersey Assemblyman, attempted to rake Ms. Coulter over the coals on the 'Hannity and Colmes' program on FOX News this evening. Ann Coulter can defend herself quite adequately and run rings around the steaming libs! And that's exactly what she did this evening!

From Chapter 2, "The Passion Of The Liberal: Thou Shalt Not Punish The Perp" ....

Assuming you aren't a fetus, the Left's most dangerous religious belief is their adoration of violent criminals. Environmentalists can be dismissed as stupid girls who like birds, but liberals' admiration of dangerous predators is a direct threat to your health. Republicans may not have figured everything out when it comes to controlling crime, but Democrats have figured out nothing. We must maintain constant vigilance over the criminal justice system, because no mattter how often liberals are caught coddling criminals, they always will go right back to it when no one's watching.

Even after the complete failure of liberal policies on crime in the sixties and seventies, and the success of conservative policies on crime beginning in the eighties, liberals are itching to start springing criminals again. Attempts to rehabilitate liberals on this are futile. It's in their DNA. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, who followed the spectacularly successful mayor Rudy Giuliani, knows the one thing he can't touch is the Giuliani crime policy. So liberals are biding their time, waiting for Bloomberg to be term-limited out of office. By then, the insanity of the Dinkins years will be a distant memory - no memory at all for the recently arrived New Yorkers who moved in after Giuliani made the city safe again. As soon as Bloomberg is out and a Democrat is in, the ACLU will be back again, hamstringing law enforcement, bringing endless brutality cases, and setting violent predators free. (How does "Mayor Mumia Abu-Jamal" sound to you?)

Liberals believe it is important to never, ever punish criminals because - well, I'm not sure why. The perpetrator is too young; the perpetrator is too old; the perpetrator has been rehabilitated; the perpetrator will not be rehabilitated in prison; similarly situated perpetrators got a different sentence; the perpetrator wrote a children's book; the perpetrator was making a statement about society; the perpetrator says he didn't do it (and we're too busy writing him mash notes to look at the evidence); the perpetrator was on cold medication when he , murdered, and cannibalized a family of four.

Right on, Ann! Right on!

Is it fair to label that sort of silly thinking as leftist thinking?

Naughty of you, because I think its a falsehood to say that "Liberals believe it is important to never, ever punish criminals".

Generalisations like these seem seem inacurate. Its just not rational to say that "liberals believe" as if everyone who is liberal in their thinking takes that view of crime and punishment. I think that I'm very liberal in my thinking about most things but when it comes to law and order I hold views that a lot of people would regard as extremely conservative.

I love the way you write, but on some things you just dont play fair do ya

QueenOfSwords - Thanks for dropping by to offer your comments. For the most part, liberals in this country do believe that criminals should never be punished. I agree with Ann Coulter's assessment. As silly as her statements may seen and although some liberals might wish to run away from their record, they have been soft on criminals in this country. Is it different in your country?

Your comment about the "thought police" is ironic. A couple elected officials in New Jersey are calling for a "ban" on Ann Coulter's new book. Many newspaper and magazine writers are outraged over her book and one writer has apparently made a statement that she should kill herself. See how intolerant the liberals are in our country?

As if more evidence were needed to support Ann Coulter's assertions regarding the First Commandment of Liberalism: Thou Shalt Not Punish The Perp, we now find continuing liberal sympathy for the GITMO detainees. The following has been copied and reprinted from Air America's radio talk show website:

White House Calls Guantanamo Suicides ‘Good PR Move’

The suicides of three detainees at Guantanamo Bay over the weekend provoked new calls for the prison camp’s closure, even as a White House official dismissed the deaths, saying they were “unnecessary, but certainly a good PR move”. The administration line is that the suicides were an act of “asymmetrical warfare” committed by men who “don’t value their own lives”, rather than the desperate act of men held for years without charges or the possibility of a trial.

What they don't go on to tell you is that about 400 detainees have already been released to return to their countries. In some cases, these detainees have later engaged in murder back in their countries. One case that I recall occurred in Pakistan. They don't tell you that our military interrogators believe they are still obtaining useful intelligence information that just might save your life or the lives of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. They don't tell you how the U.S. military has bent over backwards to treat the detainees as humanely as possible. They don't tell you that, were some of the worst of the detainees moved to prisons, to await trial, they would likely be killed by inmates and that in many cases their countries do not want them returned. Dealing with the remaining 400+ detainees will take some time. Rather, the libs would have you believe that these poor detainees are being held "illegally", are being "mistreated" and that the "Bush administration" and by extension the "U.S. military" are all evil. Blame the U.S. first vs. the detainees who have vowed to kill you!
