MOOD MUSIC MONDAY - Ernest Tubb, the "Texas Troubadour"

"Drinkin' Music"...

Hey guys! The holiday period may bring out vivid memories of a woman from your past. If you're sad and depressed because of this woman in your past, just remember that another will soon come a long to take her place so that you can be happy once again and then eventually sad and depressed all over again when she too leaves. Remember this ... The women, they come and they go, but the truly great drinkin' songs last forever!

My favorite drinkin' song is frequently played at the 'Happy Hollow Tavern' in Oriole, a sleepy little town in southeast Missouri. This is an old song written by a dear friend of travelingintexas, Ernest Tubb, the "Texas Troubadour". Bud Light goes especially well with this particular drinkin' song, but any brand of beer will do in a pinch.....

Waltz Across Texas
Ernest Tubb, the "Texas Troubadour"

When we dance together, my world's in disguise,
It's a fairy-land tale that's come true.
And when you look at me with those stars in your eyes,
I could waltz across Texas with you.

Waltz across Texas with you in my arms.
Waltz across Texas with you.
Like a story-book ending, I'm lost in your charms;
And I could waltz across Texas with you.

Instrumental break.
Ah, Buddy now.
And Leon.

My heartaches and troubles are just up and gone,
The moment that you come in view.
And with your hand in mine dear, I could dance on and on:
And I could waltz across Texas with you.

Waltz across Texas with you in my arms.
Waltz across Texas with you.
Like a story-book ending, I'm lost in your charms;
And I could waltz across Texas with you.

If you do choose to drink because of a woman this holiday season, please drink responsibly and have one of the young cocktail waitresses drive you home!

How about drink for a man?

My own drive-me-to-drink song is "Ghost Town" by Cheap Trick. Guaranteed to make me cry into my cosmopolitan... good thing I down 'em so fast when it's playing the taste isn't ruined by the salt water. It makes me remember every time someone I loved left me behind, wondering why my love wasn't returned. Too many times... I need a drink now.

Ghost Town[/bold]
Cheap Trick

Well the streets are all crowded
Lots of people around
And there’s music playing
But I can’t hear a sound
Just the sound of the rain
Falling silently down
Livin’ ain’t been livin’
Since you put down
Yeah, life goes on around me every day
But it might as well be half a million miles away

It’s like a ghost town without your love
Like a ghost town without your love
Like a ghost town, baby, can’t you see?
It’s a ghost town until you come back to me
Oo, oo, till you come back to me

Well I wish I still had you
Had you here next to me
Baby, where did you go?
Baby, why did you leave?
Though the world, it keeps turnin’
But it don’t turn for me
Without you in my life
My life ain’t no place to be
There’s only lonely days and empty nights
Ain’t the same without you, baby, nothin’ feelin’ right

It’s like a ghost town without your love
Like a ghost town without your love
Like a ghost town, baby, can’t you see?
It’s a ghost town until you come back to me
Oo, oo, till you come back to me

Darlin’, I wanna leave this town
Don’t wanna be around
I’m gonna leave this town

PrincessKarma - Now that is a sad song! PK, let's get you another Cosmopolitan, and I'll have a double gin martini with lots of olives!

Whispersoftly5 - I can't believe a sophisticated lady from Sacramento, CA would have ever heard of this song by Ernest Tubb of Texas! Whisper, you must tell me more!

I love all music - I really do, but classic country and some bluegrass was the music that first moved me.

I'm not much on drinking - but I find I'm ready for one myself. I'll take what one of what PrincessKarma is having please.

Whisper...

This is one of my favorite of your blogs

Nothing better than drinking beer in a bar contemplating past loves and envisioning new ones

Here's one of my favorite drinking songs especially when you get the whole bar singing it.

There's A Tear In My Beer by Williams Hank Jr

There's a tear in my beer
'cause I'm cryin' for you,dear
you are on my lonely mind.
Into these last nine beers
I have shed a million tears.
You are on my lonely mind
I'm gonna keep drinkin'
until I'm petrified.
And then maybe these tears
will leave my eyes.
There's a tear in my beer
cause I'm crying' for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.

Last night I walked the floor
and the night before
You are on my lonely mind.
It seems my life is through
and I'm so doggone blue
You are on my lonely mind.
I'm gonna keep drinkin'
till I can't move a toe
and then maybe my heart
won't hurt me so.
There's a tear in my beer
cause I'm cryin' for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.

Lord, I've tried and I've tried
But my tears I can't hide
You are on my lonely mind.
All these blues that I've found
Have really got me down
You are on my lonely mind
I'm gonna keep drinkin'
till I can't even think
Cause in the last week
I ain't slept a wink
There's a tear in my beer
cause I'm crying for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.

.

[blog luke69iner] - Hank Williams, Jr., much like his father, knows a little bit about drinkin'. Good music selection! Didn't catch you favorite beer! Someday my friend, we shall guzzle down a few together!

[travelingintexas] - I look forward to seeing your post on the Irish beer drinkin' songs!
