Andy Williams is synonymous with Christmas music. I heard his rendition of "Happy Holiday" on the radio this past weekend. I doubt that many of us go through a Christmas holiday season without hearing silver-throated Andy sing at least one or two Christmas songs. Remember the Andy Williams Christmas Shows? Ah! Those were the good old days!

Happy Holiday Lyrics
Written by Irving Berlin
Sung by Andy Williams

Happy holiday
Happy holiday

While the merry bells keep ringing
May your every wish come true

Happy holiday
Happy holiday

May the calendar keep bringing
Happy holidays to you

If you're burdened down with trouble
If your nerves are wearing thin
Pack your load
Down the road
And come to Holiday Inn

If the traffic noise affects you
Like a squeaky violin
Kick your cares
Down the stairs
And come to Holiday Inn

If you can't find someone who
Will set your heart a whirl
Take your car and motor to
The home of boy meets girl

If you're laid-up with a breakdown
Throw away your vitamin
Don't get worse
Grab your nurse
And come to Holiday Inn

Andy Williams began singing in his hometown, Wall Lake, Iowa, performing with his three brothers in a local Presbyterian church choir that was established by his parents. At age eight, Williams made his professional singing debut as the youngest member of the Williams Brothers Quartet. The brothers became regulars on the radio station in Des Moines, Iowa, and were prominently featured on national radio stations. The widespread radio exposure caught Bing Crosby’s attention. With Crosby, Williams and his brothers made their first professional recording, “Swinging on a Star,” which became a hit in 1944. But in 1951, the group disbanded and each brother went his own way. Williams moved to New York City and continued his singing career. While in New York, Williams performed regularly on Steve Allen’s Tonight Show, which led to his first recording contract with Cadence Records. Williams had his first top-10 hit with “Canadian Sunset.” Many more hits were to follow, but none would become more associated with Andy Williams than “Moon River,” the Oscar-winning song from the film 'Breakfast at Tiffany’s'. The Andy Williams Show debuted on September 16, 1963, on NBC and lasted for nine years, making Williams a superstar with three Emmy awards. As one of NBC’s top-rated programs, the show began a holiday tradition with the classic Christmas episodes that featured the entire Williams family. By the time The Andy Williams Show ended in 1972, Williams had achieved international fame. In spring 1999, Williams found himself back on the record charts once again. In England, a commercial for the Fiat automobile company featured Williams’ version of “Music to Watch Girls By.” The ad became so popular that the record company re-released the song and this time it was a top-10 hit. Williams toured throughout England, Ireland and Scotland. Every theater sold out in hours after tickets went on sale. Andy still performs regularly at his 'Moon River Theatre' in Branson, MO. Thanks Andy, for all the great memories!

Silky ... Did you see where Andy toured England, Ireland and Scotland? He can sing 'Londonderry Air' (Danny Boy) better than anybody! I hope you've heard his rendition of 'Danny Boy'! It is so good, Silky! From now on, when I hear Andy singing 'Danny Boy' I will think of my good friend from Ireland, Silky! If you are ever in Missouri (central part of the US) I would love to escort you to Andy Williams' 'Moon River Theatre' in Branson, MO! We have to do this soon, Silky, since Andy is getting pretty old!

Tiller - I think I would like your Mother! If you and your Mother can ever make it to Missouri, I'd love to escort you both to the 'Moon River Theatre' in Branson, MO (southwest Missouri) where Andy Williams now lives. If Michael must come along, OK! If you want to leave him in Indiana, so be it!
