MOOD MUSIC MONDAY

An oldie but goodie that remains a classic and is ever bit as good now as it was when it was first released decades ago:

"Fire And Rain"
James Taylor

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

Who is Suzanne?
Susie Schnerr was a friend from JT愀 Greenwich Village days. She committed suicide while he was in London recording his debut album but his friends didn愒 want to bring him down during his big break, so they kept it from him until later.

"You've just got to see me through another day"
The phrase "another day" here and in the song of the same name both refer to recovery from addiction.

"Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground"
The Flying Machine was the name of JT愀 first band, which broke up when he left for England and his eventual solo debut. Stories claiming the line refers to an actual plane crash are just urban legends.

Any James Taylor fans out there? Give a shout!

Thank you for taking me by the hand and walking me down memory lane. As a child of the 70's James Taylor was THE music of my "youth". His songs sometimes made me laugh, often made me cry, but always made me glad to be alive. Put together a group of friends--my James Taylor albums--and several bottles of Annie Greensprings wine (yep--back before I knew that wine with screw-on lids was tacky!) and it was a party!

Annie Greenspring's wine? Boone's Farm was my brand! Screw-on caps were "tacky"....yet provided quicker access than corks! Get your JT albums back out, and I'll bring the wine.... We'll splurge....Missouri wine WITH CORKS!
