BLOG ON! *** Chapter 24

The station alarm sounded at #6 Engine Co. in downtown San Francisco.

"What the ...?" were the first words muttered by Lt. Connie Conrad as she swung her boots out of her bed. Glancing at the clock on the wall, she noted the time, 2:14 am.

Damn! What could this be? It's been a relatively uneventful Saturday night! She thought to herself as she quickly pulled on her gear.

"We've got an emergency situation downtown on Otis Street!" The dispatcher yelled out.

Oh goody! Connie cynically thought to herself. That's the perverted sex club district.

Her Fire Rescue Unit had responded to calls from there before. It was always a very interesting and eye-opening experience.

By now, her crew was loading into the Fire Rescue Truck, and she was on the department's radio unit.

"Whadda we got, Jim?" Lt. Conrad barked out with urgency in her voice. "We're rollin'! Whadda we got, Jim?"

"74 Otis Street, Connie, a place called the Power Exchange." Jim immediately came back on the radio.

"Directions: South to Market Street, then northeast to Gough Street, and then southeast to Otis Street where you will turn left. Do you read?" Connie jotted down the directions and checked her map as Jim read them off to her.

"We're headed in that direction now. OK, Jim, what's the situation down there?" Connie wanted to know what they would be facing when they got there. She would prepare her crew of six enroute. The truck's siren was screaming loudly by this time. The flashing emergency lights filled the night, and the adrenalin of the crew members was flowing.

"Looks like an overdose situation. We're the closest to them, so we're providing first response. An ambulance is on the way and the police department is responding also." Jim quickly ran down the facts as they had been relayed to him by the Emergency Response Call Center.

"Tell me more, Jim! What else do we know?" Connie barked out while writing down notes on her clip board.

"Subject is female, Caucasian. Age, mid 20's. Name unknown at this point. She has passed out, apparent cardiac arrest. No vital signs reported to us. Location, Third Floor, 74 Otis Street, The Power Exchange. Manager will meet you at the front entrance. Do you read?" Jim ran through his information quickly.

"Yep, got it all, Jim! What the hell did she take?" Connie needed to know this above all else.

"No one seems to know, Connie!" Jim responded.

"By the way, Connie, this is one our city's fine sex clubs!" Jim editorialized.

"Yes, I know! I've been there before!" Connie had been on several calls to the Power Exchange, but she had also been there with Michael the last time he visited her from his home in Illinois.

"Jim, I'm gonna get off now. Call me back if you can get anything on the suspected substance." Connie commanded.

"Just what we fuckin' need tonight!" Connie's driver, Bob, remarked. "I never thought I'd be goin' to the Power Exchange! This will be somethin' I can tell my grandkids about!"

"Yeah, right, Bob! You got the address, didn't you?" Connie asked.

"Yep, 74 Otis Street!" Bob replied.

"Promise me one thing, Connie?" Bob quipped.

"What's that, Bob?" Connie answered as she checked her watch.

"You won't let any of those guys at the sex club stick it in my ass!" Bob laughed as he steered the truck left around the corner.

"Here we are! Otis Street! Just another block now!" Bob announced.

"Good drivin', Bob! Good drivin'! Ya' got us here in 8 minutes! Not bad!" Connie commended him as she prepared to jump out of the truck and go to work.

I can tell you this, Mag. It is not Michelle Morgan. She has been with Dick Steele at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel near LAX Airport. He even stayed over on Saturday night. Apparently they have hit it off pretty well! He will fly back to his poor unsuspecting wife, Donna, in Missouri at noon on Sunday. It's not Travis Thompson and Susie Johnson. They're in Dallas. It's not Steve Strong and Karen Kitrane. They are in Atlanta. It is not Connie Conrad. She's coming to the rescue! Hmmmm? I wonder who this poor young lady could be?
