A Lonestar Living Legend

I had the privilege of attending a concert this weekend and listening to the music of a Lonestar Living Legend, a Country & Western singer from Texas, now age 80 and still going strong!

Now, our very own, travelingintexas, is admittedly a Lonestar Living Legend, but Trav is not yet age 80 and they tell me he can't sing worth a damned anyway. Willie Nelson is a darned good Texas singer, but even Willie, as old and wrinkled as he looks, is not yet age 80.

Folks, it was none other than Ray Price. Ray Price is synonymous with Country & Western music. He has endured since the late 30's. He was brought to Nashville by the late Hank Williams, Sr. and he even roomed with old Hank for about a year before Hank Williams, Sr. died.

I took my mother to the 'Meramec Theatre' in Steeleville, MO which has become a mini-Branson, MO, and we sat in the second row thoroughly enjoying Ray Price's music. Rick Price, Ray's son, plays acoustic guitar, sings well himself and leads the touring band.

And here, now, for your listening and toe-tapping enjoyment, one of Ray Price's most memorable songs ...

For the Good Times

Artist: Ray Price (peak Billboard position # 11 in 1970)
Words and Music by Kris Kristofferson

Don't look so sad, I know it's over
But life goes on and this old world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops flowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times

I'll get along, you'll find another
And I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops flowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time
For the good times

Good point! I didn't even think about that! But, my Mom and I went down to the banks of the beautiful Meramec River after the concert to get in touch with the nature and the environment. We shared a joint and wept openly when we saw a couple discarded Bud Light beer cans and a used condom on the banks of the river!

I'm glad I got a chance to see him perform! He won't be around to many more years!
