The Second Residence

Why didn't i think of this earlier????!!!!
Hey everybody. I gotta make a decision.
Sometime next year, I want to get a second residence/vacation property.
Has to be somewhere near water, would prefer to have about 6 acres, but its not a deal breaker. (Saw a great ad for a condo in Santa Monica off the beach), Budget is whatever. If I fall in love with it, I'll find a way to get it.
So I've been thinking about either Santa Monica, California, Miami Beach, Florida, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Aspen, Colorado, New York, NY or Atlanta, Georgia.
So whaddaya think? Where should it be? Ask any questions to help you, help me. LOL. (Jerry McGuire)

How about Panama? I know a lot of American retirees are moving here for the lower cost of living and nice available properties...

Having just moved from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, I think this area would be a BIG mistake. Rude people, traffic congestion, overinflated prices, Forbes magazine says that the real estate market is a "bubble ready to burst". There are much better alternatives to Miami if you like Florida. Condiser Hobe Sound (extremely nice, reasonably priced). To get to Hobe Sound (or that vicinity, travel about 20 miles north of Jupiter, F. Jupiter is located about 135 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale.

Another idea... San Louis Obispo area in CA - its is beautiful. However, if you have a problem with nuclear plants, be advised that there is a nuclear plant in the vicinity (just like there is one in San Clemente).

Although you do not know me from "Adam", my personal favorite is Galveston Island, TX (or the surrounding areas). Property is extremely reasonable, the water is beautiful, the people are extremely nice, it has a small town atmosphere, and there is a wide selection. On Galveston, the further west you go, the nicer the condos (on the far east end, the big developers have driven up the prices). Also, just across Galveston bay is an area called Crystal Beach - you might want to check this out also.

If you do not have to have an "ocean" but if you want a mountain/hill top home overlooking a beautiful lake, check out Hippie Hollow (west of Austin). This has become my favorite "mini" vacation spot.

Good luck.

Hi Princess Karma. Welcome to the wonderful world of Sizzle. Hmmm. Never thought about Panama. Think I will have to go for a visit one day.
Not necessarily the cities, but at least surrounding areas of the States I chose is to be close
to various aspects of my industry also. Entertainment.

Thanks for stopping by Sizzle's World, atomic. Hobe sound, sounds interesting, but don't think I can deal with San Louis Obispo.
No nuclear plants for me, if I can help it.
Don't have to have an ocean. Just a body of water real near by, to give me that view.
Galveston...Hmmm...Funny you should mention that...

Hi Kat, Welcome to Sizzle's. That's the kind of Info I need. I want to be at peace. No mudslides, burning, earthquakes,LOL. Obispo has the nuclear plant. Its looking like Cali is going to be falling out of the equation. I know Miami has the potential for monsoons, tidal waves, etc. Jeez can't a guy get a little water! LOL.

Katey, you hit the nail on the head.

Any wonder why I like hotels? They fit my changing moods very nicely.

OK actually I selected a 5th wheel for my second place. It can be hauled to any location I desire and all my stuff is already in place when I get there. Not to mention it's alot less to worry over when I'm not around.

Curious, How close are the Keys to Miami? Looked at a condo development called Paramount Bay online and had them ship me some added info. Love the place!!

The Keys are beyond the southmost tip of Florida. But remember to get some good insurance when you get any plae on a beach. Even if it's New Englandy coast. Those damn hurricanes and tropical storms.

Or hey, you could always check out places around New Orleans. Fabu town. I LOVE it there. Definitely a great place for an extended vacation. Culture, Music, Mystery, History, Cuisine, adventure, and breath taking scenery.

Well, Sizzle, if it were me... the second home would be on 7 Mile Beach, Grand Cayman. Wonderful people, beautiful island, yeah, there's the occasional hurricane, but it's the price you pay to live in paradise.

Hey JF!! Is this new picture from Friday? You have a big smile on, so I guess things went well. LOL. Grand Cayman's. I have heard wonderful things about it. My 2nd spot has got to be an industry town though. The closet thing to an industry town that is tropical would be St. Barts. For some reason a lot of industry folks vacation there around Christmas.
