Every So Now and Again...I Miss It

Every so now and again I have flashes of remembrances of what my life was like before I had a kid.

For one thing, I had a cute, speedy 2-seater of a car. A Honda del Sol! It was red and fast and made me feel... FUN and carefree!

Then I got pregnant and had to trade it in for a more "sensible" car. Thus began my adventures in "mommy-mobiles." I really hate them, for the record, because in them, I, too, drive like a mom instead of the speed demon I once used to. Yes, my cargo is more precious now; but, still, I would love to feel the wind whip through my hair again.

I had money. Need I say more?

I miss the fact that I could pick up and go at any time for any reason. There were no hassles of car seats, snacks, drinks, adequate cooling temperatures and/or entertainment.

But, what I truly miss, are the little things, believe it or not. Things like:

Painting ALL of my finger nails at once. As I sit and type this, I have one hand painted and one hand not. It's much too hard to paint both hands and wait for them to dry...they always get messed up because that's when he needs something the most.

Playing the radio in the car as loudly as I want without fear of drowning out the munchkin in the backseat who insists on talking non-stop on our drive to wherever we're going.

The things that I've gained, though, those are the things most precious and meaningful to me. There's nothing like having someone who makes you laugh for no reason, who makes your heart happy just by looking at them, and who'll tell you you're pretty even when you know you look like you've been run over by a truck.

So, maybe I do look silly in public with one hand painted with red nail polish while the other is bare and, yes, I suppose I'm annoying to some of you with my slow-pokey driving. You can laugh at me or curse me if you want, but I don't care.

There's nothing like being loved unconditionally by someone who trusts you so completely.

I have your back on this one....

I miss the UNINTERUPPTED baths.

I miss NOT having to vaccum everyday.

I miss NOT having to do laundry more than once a week.

I miss being able to have spontaneous sex.

But I do LOVE being a Mom

pragmatic: I'll say a hallelu-yer (think Madea) on all of those!! I'm just so damn grateful that I lived through the bottle and potty training stages. I think it should be blue skies ahead from now on. Here's hoping anyway. Thanks for coming by!!

Bug: It's funny how they completely change your lives, doesn't it? We only thought before that our lives were complicated. Thanks for coming by. I checked out some of your stuff earlier, too. I read your "all about you" post and we actually have some things in common.
