Sign Change

Way back when I was someone else, I posted a post explaining that I should come with a warning. At the time, and at many times here recently, the sign would serve as a warning to others that

Object in Mirror are More Fucked Up Than They May Appear.

It's only fair. Full disclosure, honesty, assumption of the risk. It was required, and it allowed me the ability to do the work needed on myownself.

Well, I think I need to change my sign. I have undergone a number of changes in the past few months. (Always a master of understatement, I am.) But the biggest of all is that I know who I am, what I need, and what I have to give.

That does not mean that I am a finished work. We are all works in progress, to a degree. But I am even moreso in progress than most. Nearly five months ago, the building that is my life was demolished, destroyed, reduced to rubble after it collapsed under its own weight due to poor construction. I have spent the past four months (almost to the day) clearing away the debris, preparing the site, and pouring the concrete for the foundation of my life.

You see, I had the land -- this ground where I now stand, still -- all along. But the rebuilding has been fast, furious, and not without its setbacks. But I got there, and got it done. I poured the concrete. I allowed others to etch their initials in the still-wet stuff so I would never forget they stopped by, for a little while anyway.

It has hardened now. Time to order the next set of building materials. I'll be doing my own construction, of course, but part of the process is collaborative. I'm taking applications now, no references necessary.

Given that I'll have more than just me on this building project, I need to continue the process of disclosure. Worked before, and will need to work again. So I need a new sign. And by now it should be obvious:

UNDER CONSTRUCTION -- ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. And don't forget your hardhat...

It's going to be a great place when I'm done. I'll have a party and invite you all.

Good sign, it's fitting.

Seriously_Real replies on 5/28/2006 5:57 am:
Thank you Jadey. You're the type that all the workers will make catcalls at while you sashay by. We need that on this project, too.

Great post, been there, well actually I am there. So I will be glad to take a little break from my project and come on over and help with yours. Share a building trick here or there, warn each other about something we already tried and didn't work.
Giving the crew here the day off ?* , and coming on over. I am sure LeeAnn will be along later too

Seriously_Real replies on 5/28/2006 6:02 am:
I'd love that. We should get together and compare notes. Share stories. And LeeAnn could join us? Excellent.

The first construction project I had 3 signs... one said "Watch for falling Objects"...(I liable to throw something out,lol)... another was something like ...ahem..."Deep Excavation", don't remember the 3rd, and I'm not hunting it down either,

Seriously_Real replies on 5/28/2006 6:06 am:

Although I am handy around the house (putting together flat pack furniture a specialty!), I dont think I'd be a great help to you.

I'll make the cake for the house warming party instead OK?

Seriously_Real replies on 5/28/2006 6:09 am:
I hear you make great cake. You should make one for me and my crew. We're worthy.

Can't believe hubby beat me to my Prom Date's construction party and he stole my hard hat! Tool belts on and I got the leash and collar for slave boy and phuc_buddy if NSA addict hasn't already snagged him...haha So what else do you need? Can I play with your tools? We always share our's
Great sign but I think Gerson's revision is seriously necessary, but maybe a slight twist; "Under Construction - Real & Dangerous, but not really dangerous!"
Sounds like an assumption of the risk arguement, but that's what life's all about, no risk - no gain. The devils always in the
Just the fact that you're willing to post the sign is an admirable trait, most people pretend they are fine instead of saying "I'm fucked up I'm working on it, ride with me or be gone". That takes all of strength. There are lots of us standing with you saying the same thing in our own ways.
Take a couple of days off, would you? You work too much, it's a holiday, have a great weekend!

Seriously_Real replies on 5/28/2006 6:11 am:
Like I said...full disclosure worked before. I got what I needed from it. And I have learned to be fearlessly honest. It's a good thing and a nice reminder of the positives we get from people we bounce into and off of.
