It's Friday....but Sunday's a-comin'....

There was a famous sermon I heard once where the preacher used a rhetorical metaphoric device over and over to demonstrate "hope." Harkening back to the Good Friday when Jesus was crucified, he reminded the audience that being sad on Friday is a wasted opportunity for hope --- because Sunday was a-comin', and Jesus was to rise again soon.

Example after example he would use then -- lost a job? lost a spouse? children won't listen to you? can't make ends meet? love turned its back on you? and on and on and on --- and after every one he would resonate, "I know it's Friday....But Sunday's a-comin'!"

The oratory was magnificent. Like Martin Luther King Jr.'s maginificent "I Have a Dream" speech, the sermon began slowly, and through repetition of the device, it built to a crescendo that was nothing shy of sublime. I will always remember it.

I was raised in the Baptist church, and many of you out there are acquainted with (and maybe even adherents to) the Christian faith. This is not about that.

This is about hope.

This is about Friday.

This is about the Sunday that is a-coming.

In my life over the past year there have been changes, and more heartache than I once thought I could bear. But I suppose at some level I never gave up hope. My Sunday was coming.

And if I can be permitted to continue the metaphor with an obvious caveat that I'm not deifying myself, I will tell you now that it is good to be alive.

I will not say that I am done changing, but I can tell you that I have a new "clarity" of understanding how profoundly the past year has changed me. I am awakening to a new day every day, it seems. I see life differently now. I see love differently now.

And I'll explain all this in greater detail in a later post about a realization I had about My Imaginary today, the nature of passion, and who I am as a person. But for now, I'm going to try one last time to pound this concept into your head, because there are many many many of us who could use this sermon one more time.....

It may be Friday, y'all. But Sunday's a-comin'.....

You once said to me.. "we are not all that different you and I" (or something like that LOL )

I simply have to agree with that statement as you have just described my last year as well! Yes I am sure the "details" are quite different and perhaps teh outcomes are different on the surface... but once you look deeper... we have both learned much and changed for the better I hope!

Thank you for the "sermon".. yes I dod need to remember "Sunday's a comin"!

For those that don't adhere to the Christian faith, change the words around just a bit and you have damn near every man's mantra;

It may be Monday, y'all, but the Weekend's a comin'!

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.
