A few thoughts on the weekend...

As with many events of a significant magnitude, the full impact of this past weekend won't really be known until it is far enough in a rear-view mirror (so to speak) to see what has changed, etc. As for now, as with most people who attended the event, there are just some random thoughts to share...

-- You really have to know SD30 to know why it is no surprise whatsoever that most everything planned for the weekend went off without a hitch. It's what she does.

-- There is absolutely no substitute for meeting someone in person. We have had blog comments from people, read their stuff, but until you see them face to face, or up close to other body parts during twister, you really can't know what they are like. One of my enduring thoughts is that as close as we can be on these digital pages, the reality of who we are versus what we project is often staggeringly different. Not in a bad way, just different.

-- On the other hand, some people are EXACTLY what you think they are. [blog curious08325] and [blog gerson42] are two such people for me, at least. Precisely who I thought they were, down to the last physical detail. (Not that I scrutinized all the physical details, but...well. You know what I mean.)

-- It is also time to respond to the idea of this party as a "clique" gathering. The people who were not "invited" have had their panties in a bunch because it was viewed as exclusionary. Let me, as an initial creator of the idea, put this to bed now, finally, once and for all. It was never a goal to NOT invite certain people at all. The reason for making it invitation-only was two-fold: (1) security purposes. If the details about what we were doing were broadcast, there could have been many people coming and creating trouble. Let's take an easy example: Do you know how many spouses of married bloggers cruise the pages looking for their spouse? There was one person here, at a minimum, who did NOT want to be known that this person was here. But if the whole thing was broadcast, the spouse could have easily found out. Simply stated, this took alot of planning and details. Putting it out here for the world would have, literally, invited trouble. (2) insure participation. Had this been a general invitation, there would not have been an urgency adn comfort level among the people who did come. It would have been casual, but too casual. Making it a true party with actual invitations made it REAL and gave the people who had to spend a tremendous amount of time and money to come had confidence in it because of that. It is no accident that this is the largest meet and greet ever in Blogville, and I am certain that the invitation-only nature had a part to play in that because it was REAL. Now...to those who did not get invited, you need to know something: everyone who came was allowed to suggest anyone else as an invitee. It was a dynamic list. It was a public list within the group. If someone -- ANYONE -- wanted to know if you were coming and didn't see you on the invite list, they could have asked for you to be invited and you WOULD have. WITHOUT EXCEPTION. It may sound harsh, but if it turns out that no one thought to invite you it is either because (a) no one thought about you or (b) (as is the case if one person in particular) everyone just ASSUMED you were coming and never bothered to check. Oversights happen. Slights happen. It's life. And sorry if you got your feelings hurt. But it is NOT, repeat NOT, a case of intentionally excluding ANYONE.

-- For my last observation, I'll simply say it is a small, small world. There we were, from countries all over the world (including California), and we were all united by the one thing that is common to people everwhere. Carrots.

--Seriously

The majority of the post didn't concern me but that made me laugh my ass off. Like California is another country all to itself.

Glad you had a good time, just wish I could have been there. I'm off to Denver tomorrow, then home on Saturday, then leaving for Texas to see my dad the following Monday. I jsut couldn't get away with being gone from home for 3 weeks straight.

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

Sounds like California is a country all of it's own.....lol, sorry Seriously, just had to tease on that score. Seems I'm not the only one either.

At any rate, I'm glad you guys all had a good time.

This is the bestest post you ever did write Seriously.

Its almost as good as some of my stuff

J/K. It is a seriously good post the explains the reasoning behind the way the invites were done. I was there in Atlanta when the idea was being hatched and I agreed then and still agree with the way the invites were done.

Kudo's to the ATL Army and I am proud to be an honorary member of such a wonderful group of people!!!

Are we a clique just because we all click?

Or is it just really good friendship?

I am not dead yet

-I agree with you, b, this way worked and we were able to really relax and let our hair down because of it.

-Thank you so much, sexydisaster30 for doing so much for the many, and you too, Seriously. You two must be buttless by now. I'm not gonna check or anything but just sayin.

-It's really true that you just have to meet somebody to get their essence, no matter how close you may be in print. Some people are so much more yummy in person, too...

-WE ARE NOT CLIQUEISH. That whole line of blather upset me so much I almost didn't want to go to this thing. It isn't a crime to have our friends or have our social group. It isn't a crime to enjoy having some fun with them. Seriously isn't kidding when he says that the invitation list was dynamic. But even if it hadn't been; say it was truly a closed list derived from people we simply wanted to meet, it would be our right to do that. Because the last time I checked this was STILL AMERICA.

That's all, just my thoughts. Thanks for the space, Seriously. And thanks for the idea and for carrying it out...it did a lot for me. But the only carrots I like are chocolate ones. Yum. Pass me a tribble with that.

Of course I love the California comment too...but have this feeling this was in reference to Gerson, lol (even though I know some others, like curious were there).

Well I love all you people and so wish I could have been there. One of the biggest regrets I have...bad timing, no money ):
But I have hope there will be another opportunity in the future.
Can't wait to hear more.

At least I felt like I was "there" a little bit yesterday! Thanks.

I remember when the list was being compiled and I remember the organizers imploring invitees to let them know of anyone else. Blogville is a huge place and no one blogger knows everyone. The irony is the organizers were going out of their way to AVOID hurt feelings. C'est le vie, yeah?

Know what I absolutely love about this post? That SD30 found and corrected YOUR typo. Poetic justice, no?

One last question...
Based on how you sing his praises, it finally hit me. You have a bit of a crush on Ger, don't you?

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Given the effort you all made, and the opportunity to extend invitations further, it's unfortunate to me that some people felt excluded. I did hear about that, and suggested that they approach an organizer 6 weeks before the event. They didn't approach, so there was no invite. I think there's a lesson there..

Sorry again I wasn't able to attend, and thanks again for bringing people together.

I am so very pleased to hear that a wonderful time was had. I am not in the least surprised that SD30 pulled it off, with a little (or lot) of help from her friends.

Thank you too, for the clarification on the invitation process. If it had not been done in the manner it was, I would most likely have not even considered coming. Sadly, a blown motor in my vehicle and a business trip that is taking me away from work for 8 days later this week, we were not able to attend after all.

I will be visiting Atlanta one of these days, though......so be prepared!

I only got to come to ATL for that one day, some of the people came early and stayed late, I am so jealous. One day and I am hooked on you guys. I don't think I thanked you in person Seriously, but I meant to. Thanks for coming up with this idea with SD. It was so much fun.

I am not sure who invited me, not that it matters, but I am so glad that they did. You guys all did a fantastic job. The hotel was fabulous, the restaurant was so good that the mmmgoods and I went back the next day and had lunch there!

I've never felt more welcome or more secure in a group of people I just met. I was surrounded by men but felt like I was protected instead of feeling like something would be expected of me in a sexual way, afterall this is a sexsite. Everyone was so nice. IT WAS GREAT! Thanks again, Mac

Well, at least you got mentioned... (says the third part of the California Contingent).

As an impartial observer, I can only concur with what S_R said about how the invitations were done. I could tell from where I sat that everything was being done so that anyone could invite anyone else, if they were interested. I was quite upset when people came out feeling excluded because anyone who "asked if they were attending" could have a) looked it up on the database, and b) resquested an invitation themselves... the fact that it was done the way it was done only shows me that someone only had one goal in mind--stirring up trouble (which makes sense now that I know who was suspected of stirring things up.....)

I am so glad Seriously that someone FINALLY said this so all know the genuine intent and generous nature of the invitation and event. Although circumstances made it where I was unable to attend, I know this was a large undertaking and felt honored to be included and my tongue is sore from biting it near off at times when I saw remarks slandering the character with which the greet was put together. Anyone left out it is my true belief and knowledge WAS MERELY oversite. All involved in putting this togoether need a big pat on the back because they surely have been slighted in their most kind and loving gestures. SD, Caress, you, Ger, and I am sure others I know nothing about worked very hard to accomodate all of us and our requests. Thank you all for trying to include me and any of my requests. Glad this FInally came out!

OK, let's brainstorm an "Un" for Corezon--
Unjaded, Unattached, Unsuspecting, Uncut (heh), Uncomplicated (that should be easy), Unspoiled, Underrated (I kinda like that one, like an overlooked jewel or something), Underneath...

Just try to avoid--
Undeterimined, Unhappy, Unwashed (or read humboldthonni), etc.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]
