Bad Karma

I've recently had a string of misfortune...I think it is brought on by my own actions. "For every action there is a reaction?"....

I've been contemplating if blogging on this site and making new "secret" friends with strangers is getting me into some kind of Karmic trouble.

Yeah in physics the reaction is said to be "equal and opposite."

"In Buddhist teaching, the law of karma, says only this: `for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.' A skillful event is one that is not accompanied by craving, resistance or delusions; an unskillful event is one that is accompanied by any one of those things. (Events are not skillful in themselves, but are so called only in virtue of the mental events that occur with them.)
Therefore, the law of Karma teaches that responsibility for unskillful actions is born by the person who commits them."

My 1st thought on this is that Buddhists need a life. Life is made up of cravings, resistance, and delusions -- making us all unskillful. As a result we are all responsible for our own actions.

"Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done, is currently doing and will do. The effects of all deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain in others."

If you can accept that the basic ethical purpose of Karma is to behave responsibly, then the tenet of Karma may be simply stated 'if you do good things, good things will happen to you - if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you'.

So my dear beautiful soul searcher... my advice for you is... do good things, try not to cause pain in other's lives, and take responsibility for your actions.

Look, listen, and feel for these qualities in others and you will find yourself among trustworthy, caring, and worthwhile people be it here, there, or anywhere. Life becomes worth craving and less resistent... or I could be delusional.

I think the missing part of that thought is Intention. What are your intentions in using this website. Actions are only "bad" if they are intended to manipulate or harm someone. It is acting on negative intentions that brings bad karma.
Sometimes, bad things just happen. sometimes, what appears to be a bad thing is a lesson in life. Sometimes, things that seem bad are simply part of a process of change that may be painful but takes us in a positive direction.

Well stated "Guy1378Fox". Listen to those pearls of wisdom Secrets733. I tried to add to those pearls but there simply is nothing to add. What he said hit right on the mark.
