MissAnnThrope's "Hey, this is a sex site, isn't it?"

MissAnnThrope is a dear, and very intelligent, friend of mine. Anyone who wishes for wisdom should seek her out. She just started her own blogs and I read her first one.

Ironically- someone had just come into a chatroom a while earling asking if this was Passion.com... I tried to instruct him to another of my blog, where Miss Ann had commented on the very same subject.

Miss Ann answered that question, as well as "this is a sex site" confusion, in her blog- which (with her permission) I will copy/paste, from start to finish.

Hey, this is a sex site, isn't it?

"Yeah. Depends on the portal you come in through.

For those of you who haven't figured it out, this site isn't just one site. The Friend Finder Network has been buying up all sorts of sites. So, we have Passion.com, HotMatch, XMatch, AdultFriendFinder and for some reason lesbianpersonals.com. Why that one wasn't linked to OutPersonals, I don't know. Well, I do have a theory.

With the affiliates program, they state that they pay extra when women join up. Since they changed AdultFriendFinder to a purely sex site, they're having women leave in droves, because of the way we're treated by men and, they're having major trouble getting women to sign up. So, what better way to get it to look like there are tons of women on here other than to add a lesbian dating site to the mix?

Now, I'm so damned sick of the men who enter the chat rooms screaming that this is a sex site, all us ladies should be ready, willing and able. So, I took a look at the FAQs for each of the sites that feed into this site. That is, the sites I know about.

For Passion.com it says:

The purpose of the Passion.com site is to make it as easy as possible for you to meet people, using the power of the internet. At Passion.com, you'll find a community of people using the site as a tool to make connections and find partners for dating, romance, friendship, and a variety of encounters.

OK, I don't see anything there about it being purely a sex site. Do any of you?

Then I took a look at the AdultFriendFinder FAQ. I think I see a pattern emerging:

The purpose of the AdultFriendFinder site is to make it as easy as possible for you to meet people, using the power of the internet. At AdultFriendFinder, you'll find a community of people using the site as a tool to make connections and find partners for dating, romance, friendship, and a variety of encounters.

Hmmmm.... The purpose of the world's biggest swingers site is to make friends, romance and dating? Long story short, for everyone one of the sites, it says the EXACT SAME THING in all of the FAQs. So, to all of you who insist this is purely a sex site, oh no. It isn't."

It's percieved to be a sex site by guys. For alot of people perception is reality. I bet the reason the faq says what it says is exactly what SassyChrisls said. That women are leaving in droves. I have a question, but I'll put that in the magazine.

No matter what the "FAQ" / mission statement there is "NO" reason to be rude and offensive to a fellow member. We are supposed to be "Adults" not 15yos overloading on hormones.
What I find really amusing is the fact that there are fewer abusive people on ALT then on here.

Go figure, maybe they are worried that one of the Doms will give them a verbal stompping.

I will only say this. There are a lot of women who post nude pictures of themselves. There are a lot of women who blog about sex stories, and seek more encounters. There are even women who post sexual comic books on here. Just because the mission statement says otherwise, it does not mean that there aren't a ton of women on here who also believe this is a sex site. You do have a valid point about there being a lot of assholic men just looking for poon. But sadly, they exist in the real world in fairly similar proportions. With any luck, some of these guys will eventually take "no" for an answer, but their existence, nor a PC mission statement, does not negate the fact that the primary use of this site (at least, for the users anyway) is sex, in one respect or another.
