SOMETIMES I REMEMBER THE THE COAL FIRE, ( NOW THATS A THING OF THE PAST), THE FIRE IN THE GRATE IN THE SITTING ROUM, (LOUNGE TODAY).
SITTING BY THE FIRE ON A COLD NORTH EAST EVENING WAS HEAVEN.THE WARMTH FROM THE WELL STOKED FIRE WAS THE ONLY FORM OF HEATING ANYONE HAD NO FANCY RADIATORS,CEILING OR UNDERFLOOR HEATING.
RADIATORS WERE ALLMOST UNHEARD OF THE ONLY ONES I EVER REMEMBER WERE HUGE CAST IRON AND ONLY FOUND IN HOSPITALS.
LAYING THE FIRE ON A ICY COLD MORNING WAS A CHORE NO-ONE ENJOYED CLEARING THE OLD ASHES ETC,. AND LAYING A NEW FIRE WAS A SKILL IN ITSELF.GET IT WRONG IN ANYWAY AND YOU START ALL OVER AGAIN RIGHT FROM THE BEGINING.KIDS TODAY SET THE HEATING TIMER SWITCHOR ELSE SIMPLY TURN ON THE GAS FIRE.WE NEVER HAD...........BUT THATS ANOTHER STOREY FOR ANOTHER DAY.DO YOU REMBER COAL FIRES? I CAN SILL PICTURE THE GLOWING RED HOT COALS AND FLICKERING SHADOWS,AH MEMORIES.
