What is Adultery?

Adultery.....saw a blog where the couple was asking, obviously confused and seeking comment. Is swinging...the lifestyle....sharing..... adultery? Well being the uneducated sloth I am in religious doctrine and lawyer speak, I have to say no it is not, not when your partner knows and consents. When there is mutual consent, then I believe adultery cannot exist. But that is me...

Thought? seriously....really.....any thoughts?

There are these things called dictionaries, which contain words and definitions. Adultery was a violation of the marriage bed by sexual intercourse between a married man and a woman not his wife or a married woman and a man not her husband. A legal ground for divorce at common law. In the Bible, also generallly lewdness of various sorts.

Many would not count consenual lewdness by swingers as adultery but it meets the definition, whether consented to or not. As far as the Bible is concerned I am sure it would be seen as sinful and not acceptable behavior. Ask your priest, rabbi or minister as see what is said!

yes it is adultery, even the bible doesn't leave room for consenting relationships,

fornication is fornication, Adultery is Adultery wether the thought or the Act, it is the desire.....

Mind you tricky bit is, the bible never stated where Polygamy is a sin,

if your worried about sins,

if your not married and you get laid your sinning irrespective of who it is,

if your married and your thinking of screwying anything other than your partner, your sinning....

if Governments made Polygamy legal and allowed marriages to multiple partners, you could jump into bed with more than one WOMAN without it being a sin,

BUT the bible tells us we must give unto ceasar what is ceasars, we must obey the Law of our Governments and Rulers should we choose to live within their boundaries of governence, which means while it is illegal to have more than one wife it is illegal to have sex with more than one person.

Mind you one thing which many don't realise is that while Divorce is allowed in the Bible it does not permit remarriage,

even in the Bible marriage is only once....according to the bible if a woman divorced her husband and takes another man wether she married or not it is still adultery, and the man she lays with is still an adulterer.

Is it just me or does anybody else find it ironic that people on this site find that sex with others is a "sin", "adultery" or what have you. Personally I agree with Kate...I think the whole concept needs to be revamped some. I guess many would say that because I live as I live that I will be burning in hell for all eternity...well, perhaps that may be so, but I should have lots of people there that I know and love to keep me company....that is if one believes in the devil and hell....but that's another blog I suppose.

Will have to agree with what Kate said....Much of what was written 2000+ years ago, we see as being very outdated for us in the now. While neither one of us are overly religeous, we both feel that the 10 Commandments are great to live by....we see them as timeless.

To answer the original question...No, we don't feel that being in the lifestyle, sharing, playing or whatever you want to call it is adultery. In our humble opinion, adultery is going behind a significant others back with deceptive intentions for that individuals own benefit. WE have always been involved in this together and we both know what (and who) the other does even if we both are not present. We get all the gory details afterwards, but in our eyes we are both still involved.
