Shopping

Well the weather has cooled down a little now so I decided to venture out a few times.Firstly just to get the daily paper and then following my 2pm appointment I made a couple of jaunts to the local shopping centre.

In all probability I will be starting a new job on Monday and the unbearable heatwave that the UK is suffering at the moment has thrown up a major dilemma. I just don't have enough cool work clothes for the office. I have a few but what is required in times of such extreme temperature is linens and cottons. My last office was always so cold so I only have a few items that are not long sleeved or of a heavier textured fabric.A visit around the shops as much as I could bear proved totally fruitless. If one doesn't require swim or beach wear, there is just nothing suitable.I found a nice white cotton blouse and a blue linen top in H & M. However the blouse had a button missing at the cleavage and the linen top was heavily marked.

Oh well I guess I will just have to wing it and see if I can find anything tomorrow. If I don't I dont relish the 40 min tube journey on Monday. Apparently temperatures have been reaching well into the hundreds in carriages this week and its illegal to transport livestock over 81 degrees. You'd think the buses would be better but they're just like glass ovens. They can't install air con because most Tube lines are too far underground. There will be air conditioned trains in 2009 (how helpful!) but that's only on the Circle and Met lines because they're nearer the surface.

Anyway I digress. This blog is about life's pleasures and I experienced another small one today - Grocery shopping. I haven't enjoyed this for a long while due to being on no income for a while aside from the other week when I went to visit a friend and had the joy of shopping and cooking for a hard working close friend.Today with money in my wallet, I strolled the aisles of Sainsburys with enjoyment.Filled my basket with many delights - freshly dressed Cromer Crab and lightly smoked salmon fillets,Dorset Cereals organic cereals and muesli, wholewheat pasta and other staples, a few store cupboard items, things to make healthy lunches with for my new job, fresh fruit and vegetables in abundance - salad produce, cherries, strawberries, crispy carrots and beans, and some light summer ales and bottles of red and white wine.

This evening I will be relaxing in the peace of an empty flat wih a chilled bottle of dry white Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, a white crabmeat salad and Y Tu Mama Tambien and Casablanca on DVD. Bon Appetit!

Oh I did. It's not very often I get the place to myself. Luckily now my flatmate has started his own business , he's often out seeing clients or working off hours so I now have more privacy and peace.

Hope you have some quality time with yourself today.
