Sick of Being the Hero

Originally posted: 7/22/05

For as long as I can remember, I've always been expected to be the hero. The one who bails everyone out of trouble, the one who always comes through in the clutch, and the one who can make things happen.

Frankly, I'm tired of that role, simply because I feel people take advantage of the fact that I can make things happen.

Take today for example. My manager asks me to help another route out today because he was gonna be late. Naturally, I did it though I didn't really want to. Come on. Can you blame me? Who wants to stay late on a Friday?! But, once again, here I come to save the day.

Work always seems to forget about how many times I bail their asses out the moment I make a mistake. When I need a favor from them, they conveniently forget all that I've done for them.

Maybe I ought to become more selfish. It kind of conflicts with my nature, but I'm tired of being taken advantage of.

*sigh* Screw it. We all know I'll run my mouth off, but as soon as they need me, I'll be foolish enough to once again pull their asses out of the fire.

*scoffs* and everyone wonders why I'm so bitter.

Well, that's what's going on inside my head today. The weekend is upon us.

I'll be heading to Ziegfield's in DC on Saturday night. If anyone in the DC area would like to say hi to me while I'm there, I'd really like it. I'll share the story of that either Sunday or Monday.

Until then...

Hugs and Kisses
