A Knights Welcome Home

I've been gone a long time and I have thought of you each day. I never realized how much I missed you until the day my steed came up the path to our home. The pangs in the pit of my belly are stronger than the ones I felt while storming the battlefield.

I see our home and the wetness in my eyes will not dry. I wipe away the damp to clear the vision of you as you spring from the door. I am closer now and the evening colors rise in the background. They splash our home with colors befit a kingly palace.

As I draw near I see the curtains blowing and the smell of your sweet cooking. I stop to take in the sight and draw in the sweet smell of baking bread. With the sound of a pot dropping against the stone, I can here my love scrambling. I drop off of my equine companion and start for the door.

The door swings open and you stand there in silent reverence praying your eyes do not deceive you. As I begin to rush forward, I see your eyes glass over and a smile that would stop a deity stops me in my tracks. I drop to my knees and weep as you rush forward. You reach me with arms held wide and the sweet smell of honeysuckle invades my senses. I fear if you or I let go that I will wake from a dream.

I feel the softness of your face is you hold me tight, the wetness from your tears as they drip down my neck and I hear the trumpets in your voice as you welcome me home.
