It's a matter of survival.

I'll be on the road again today--I'm headed to Jacksonville, Texas. Driving about 140 miles through East Texas is relaxing. One of my fears is that it is so relaxing I'll get sleepy. There is this little place along the way where there are some Indian Mounds. These mounds were built by a great people that once lived throughout the Mississippi River valley from Ohio, all the way down to Texas. I've heard it said that Cahocia, their capital near St. Louis, Missouri was the largest city on the Earth in 1492 when Columbus sailed--larger than Beijing, Paris, London or Istanbul. I don't know how they can tell that now, because by the time the French sailed up the river in the 1700's, there weren't many left. Same when the Spanish bumped into them in Texas. They didn't leave because the white man came, but they may have died because of it. The best theory is that this great civilization cought the measles, and those that didn't die from that died of the mumps, and the remainder died of the chicken pox. Ultimately, they died of some little bug so small that they couldn't see it to fight back. Wow, talk about bird flu! A whole civilization just died, and no one was around to notice. We sometimes think that we own the world. Try telling that to the ants in your backyard. I know why sex is so important to us--replication is our only hope of survival. If we don't do it, some other species else will. The bird flu is just a bug that wants to replicate, and is fighting for its survival. The question is, who will win? I'm rooting for us. Therefore, I'm willing to help by replicating. I need a few volunteers however, to help me in this campaign. Anyone up for keeping me awake while I drive across East Texas?

See now, Jacksonville is just up the road a-ways. When you going? It's been a while since I was there, and your right .. the countryside is beautiful!

And my computer had to go buggy on me. When you get back to Tyler we really need to find a way to meet up for that milkshake/hot chocolate/cup of coffee ... what ever. Just to say hello, I would love to chat with you in person.

I should be back Tuesday through Thursday of next week. It might be Monday, but I think not. Do you know the restraunt on Highway 69, called "Legends?" They're in a strip mall next to The Tractor Supply Company (I think.) They make a good shake--out of Blue Bell ice cream. If you'd like to meet me there, I'm game. Just a shake, okay?
