Never go unarmed...

Good advice as I was mugged Tuesday evening as I walked from the dojo into Westport.

Just a normal day when this twit tried to grab the bag off my shoulder. It was almost funny. When are these fools going to learn that if you want someones bag , grab from the back , run forward. The bag slips off easily and you're home free because most people panic and freeze. This twit run up to me grabbed and swung me around so that I was in position to then attack him.

Now being a single woman I have a tendency to carry non-lethal weapons when I'm out and about.

I was carrying what is called a cobra. It's a spring-loaded expanding baton. Three strikes and he was out. Two with the baton and one with my knee. There would probably have been more but the security men stopped me. They zip-cuffed the twit and the called the cops. It was only then that I realized that my shoulder was dislocated. Great thing adrenaline.

Needless to say, I now have to go to court for defending myself. This jerk will probably get a high priced lawyer to sympathize with him and get off. If I can take responsibility for my actions why can't everyone else?

I have always protected myself but this one cop told me that I couldn't. Like I'm supposed to wait around for these guys to show up hours later and write up a report of an alleged mugging? I may not have very much in the way of thing but what I do have is mine and I'm not about to let someone take it.

Most crime happens because we've become weak and dependent on the police force of our cities. Now I'm not advocating that we all become vigillantes but for crying out loud take care of what you have and protect it. The law allows for this even if the cops don't want you to cut into their job. Use whatever force is necessary up to and including deadly force if necessary. Like I told the cop who was hassleing me; I didn't kill him. He's alive and able to mug someone else when he gets out of jail.

If a man neglects to enforce his rights, he cannot complain if, after a while, the law follows his example.

You go girl! That twit deserved everything you gave him and he's lucky he went out when he did - otherwise you would have really put a beating on him. I bet ya he'll think twice the next time the urge to mug some poor defenseless woman pops into his now slightly dented head. LOL

I hope your shoulder heals up quickly and completely. It's a wonderful thing being a woman with the ability to defend oneself when the need arises. Keep up the good work.

Ms. Random, all the respect in the world for you, Way to go!!!
Sorry about the shoulder, hope you heal up fast!!
Police officer was probably glad you busted up the mugger just following policy telling you to not put up the fight, and defend your property. Lots of loonies out there, but we all hope, wish to react in the brave manner you did and vanquish the attacker!! You should be striking the "Superwoman" pose, and smiling slyly, challenging the scum to "come and get some of this"!!
Not to take anything away from your bravery, but attempting to mug someone coming out of a dojo? What he got he deserved and more!!The police should have held the guy and let you show them over and over in real time how you did this!!
Victory for the vulnerable masses!! Strike that pose again, "SUPERWOMAN" hero in my eyes!!

The part of this that's stupid is that you're being hauled into court for beating him, not as a witness against him in an attempted mugging. I wish it hadn't been necessary for you to do that, but there was no excuse for his actions. The good news is that the idiot will probably get public defender who will refer to him privately as a "mope" and, although he'll try to get him off, it won't work. It will depend upon how long his sheet is what happens next.

All the best, and I'm sending healing thoughts to you.
