Snow Nov 30, 2007 11:00 am
Mood: cheerful, 471 Views
Well it seems we might have our first chance of snow here in Rhode Island over the weekend. Of course I live by the shore so oftentimes we get stuck with rain or a mix while the folks living inland get to enjoy the white stuff.

Funny how I always look forward to the first few times it snows. I actually really don't like the cold much and when I lived in Winter Park, Colorado I got SOOOO sick of snow it was unbelieveable.

But for some reason it never fails....every year I get excited for that first snowfall and I always pray for a white Christmas. I can remember some great snow storms we'd have on Christmas Eve when I was younger and it would be so beautiful waking up on Christmas morning. Of course I grew up in Western MA and they get more snow there than we do here along the shore of Rhode Island.

Now mind you....when January gets here I'll be praying for that warm weather to get here!! I have always said the worst part of the year is January through about the end of March....seems to pass very slowly and gets so cold. I guess I need to start thinking of going to Hawaii for those months!! Now wouldn't that be nice???? A girl can always dream can't she????

Holiday Decorating Nov 28, 2007 7:37 am
Mood: content, 535 Views
I can't believe Thanksgiving is over already and Christmas is around the corner. As is typical tradition in our house, we put up all our Christmas decorations (both inside and out) over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Of course I would have enjoyed the warmer temperatures that we had the day before Thanksgiving and the day of Thanksgiving for putting the outside ones up. My hands were frozen by the time we were done.

Our Christmas tree this year came out very nice if I do say so myself. My girls decided they wanted all the ornaments to be hand made so we did a lot of work and came up with some really beautiful new ornaments that can be passed down. I even went so far as to make all the bows that we put on the tree tips and the large bow at the top of the tree....needless to say it was a lot of work but worth the effort. The best part of it all was that my girls truly enjoyed making them and it gave us quality family time together!!!!

Have a great day everyone.

PS...The image for this blog post is a photo of one of the types of ornaments we made.

What a Difference a Year Makes Nov 24, 2007 8:48 am
Mood: Happy, 511 Views
It was so wonderful to be home this year for Thanksgiving. As most of you know I had gone through surgery last November and was in the hospital on Thanksgiving Day.

This year I went all out. All the family came here for the holiday and I cooked a huge meal and enjoyed every minute of it!! My youngest daughter gave grace this year at the table and the biggest thing she was thankful for was to have her mommy home and feeling well again. It brought a tear to my eye as she said it.

Yesterday my husband and I even braced the crowds and went shopping for the day. I will admit I didn't find many things to buy but I had fun none the less. It is amazing how much you enjoy something when you haven't been able to do it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and can now enjoy the remainder of the holiday season!!

What I Really Meant to Say Was..... Nov 24, 2007 8:41 am
Mood: Humorous, 509 Views
One of my girlfriends sent this to me and I thought it was funny so had to share it with all of you.

Here are some common things that women often say to men and what we are really trying to tell you....

Can't we just be friends?
Translation: There is no way in hell I am going to let any part of your body touch mine.

I Just Need some space....
Translation: I just need some space without you in it.

Do I look fat in this dress?
Translation: We haven't had a fight in a while...

Can you help me with the housework?
Translation: If I keep whining long enough the fool will do it for me....

No, no pizza's fine with me.
Translation: Cheap bastard...

I just don't want a boyfriend now.
Translation: I just don't want you as a boyfriend now.

I don't know; what do you want to do?
Translation: I can't believe that you have nothing planned.

I like you but....
Translation: I don't like you.

You never listen.
Translation: Self explanatory. YOU NEVER LISTEN.

I'll be ready in a minute.
Translation: I AM ready, but I am going to make you wait because I know you will.

Oh, no, I will pay for myself.
Translation: I am just being nice; there is no way I'm going dutch.

Oh Yes! Right there. That's the spot.
Translation: Well, not really. You obviously don't know the spot so let's just get it over with.

Size doesn't matter honey....
Translation: Unless of course I want an orgasm!

You are just too nice for me!
Translation: You are such a wimp, I could never be sexually attracted to you.

Oh, these flowers are beautiful.
Translation: Can I help you spell J-E-W-E-L-R-Y?

What did you do today?
Translation: You better have a damn good reason for not calling.

We should pick it out together.
Translation: I'll Choose.

Ha Ha Ha for a Ho Ho Ho Nov 16, 2007 6:25 am
Mood: Amazed, 561 Views
We have now reached a new frontier in coddling craziness in our society. An Australian Santa Claus training company has made it very clear to their potential "Santas" that Ha Ha Ha is to be used in place of Ho Ho Ho!!! Yes, you read correctly. Santa's in Australia will go around saying "Ha Ha Ha" to children and adults alike.

Why you ask? The Santa recruits were told that using "Ho Ho Ho" conjures up American slang for a prostitute and women are offended by it. Can you imagine a Santa without "Ho Ho Ho" in that jolly, cheerful, deep, gutteral voice of his? And does a "Ha Ha Ha" make his belly jiggle in just the same way?

Personally, I think this is an atrocity and I am a woman. I have never remotely been insulted by a Santa saying "Ho Ho Ho". Santa without a "Ho Ho Ho" would be as bad as Fat Albert with out his "Hey Hey Hey"!!

Thankfully this horrendous policy has not crossed the great pond to the USA and our Santa's will still be "Ho Ho Ho" ' ing this Christmas season.

Rainy Days - Part Deux Nov 13, 2007 8:08 am
Mood: Haven't Decided Yet, 501 Views
So here it is the Tuesday after a long weekend and it is raining again. Now mind you, as you know I love rainy days especially when I can lay around in bed, listen to the rain outside and if I'm lucky enoughm, I get to have a nice, sexy body next to me to get cozy with.

Well I'm on here blogging so obviously I'm not in bed with that hot, sexy body next to me. No...instead I have to go out and run errands today. Now as much as I love the rain, it really does suck to have to go out and run errands while it is raining...especially this kind of rain...the cold, yucky kind....yes there is a difference with rain....come on we all know about those warm, summer showers.....now those are great to make love in....okay okay....I'm getting off track....I'm here bitching about having to run errands in the rain but can you tell what I'd rather be doing?????

Anyway, for everyone else who has to be out in the rain today running errands, hope you have as much fun as I will. (NOT!!!)

BTW....as a complete aside (well not totally...it is still about rain)....do you remember being a kid and your mom making you wear rubbers (get your minds out of the gutter...the ones that went on your feet over your shoes) and carrying an umbrella. It was the MOST uncool thing in the world and you'd just rather get soaked to the bone than have to bring those things. Isn't it so funny when you think back about what used to bother us as kids????

Things to Remember Every Day Nov 11, 2007 10:06 am
Mood: Inspired, 577 Views
A friend of mine sent me this today. It put a smile on my face and so I had to share it:

We should remember these things every day because they are really true:

1. There are at least two people in this world that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you. (I think this one could be a bit debatable)

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are unique and special.

8. Someone that you don't even realize truly loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it eventually.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on your, take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks. They are not worth your time and effort to even think about them.

So......

Always remember....when life hands you lemons, ask for tequila and be sure to invite over a few friends to share with.

Good friends are like stars
You don't always see them,
But you know they are always there.

"Whenever God closes one door, he always opens another, even though sometimes it's hell in the hallway!

Decadence in the Extreme Nov 11, 2007 9:07 am
Mood: Amazed, 536 Views
I think this is probably the most decadent dessert to ever hit the Guinness Book of World Records. It made it into the book this past Wednesday and is made by the famous Serendipity 3 Restaurant in New York City.

The dessert is basically a frozen hot chocolate although they refer to it as their "haute" chocolate made with a slushy mix of cocoas from 14 different countries throughout the world, milk and 5 grams of edible 24-karat gold topped with whipped cream and shavings from La Madeline au Truffle.

It is served in a goblet with a band of gold decorated with 1 carat of diamonds and served with a golden spoon diners can take home (the spoon, not the goblet with the band with the diamonds).

And guess what, all this can be yours for the mere cost of $25,000....yes I did indeed say $25,000.

Now, I don't know about you, but even if I had $25K to just frivolously spend I could find so many better things to spend it on!!

Wow It's Getting Cold Nov 8, 2007 1:51 pm
Mood: Mood is Great...Body is Chilly, 551 Views
What happened to our warmer than normal temperatures that we've been enjoying here in Rhode Island? All of a sudden this week I am freezing my butt off!! I will admit I am not a huge fan of cold temperatures and would prefer being nice and toasty warm.

I think it is time to put the heating mattress pad on the bed and enjoy the nice, warm, coziness that provides. Worst part with that though is that it is having to drag yourself out of bed in the morning!!

I think I need to move somewhere warm! Any suggestions?

Found This Neat Website Nov 6, 2007 6:14 pm
Mood: Happy, 538 Views
I found this really neat website today during my cancer forum surfing. It is a website where I got to set up my own web page and tell my story. It also has a place for me to post photos and keep a journal.

I know many of you have been around this past year through my cancer battle so I am inviting my friends to email me if they'd like the information about the website so they can visit my page and keep abreast of things both related to my cancer and otherwise.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope this will make it easier for you to stay updated about my situation.

Rainy Days Nov 6, 2007 8:40 am
Mood: aroused, 554 Views
Don't you just love rainy days....especially if you don't have any obligations and don't need to go out. It is the perfect type of weather for curling up in bed with a good book or even better with a nice warm body next to you.

It's been raining here in Rhode Island all day and believe it or not I spent the whole morning curled up in bed doing absolutely nothing....just listening to the sound of the rain. Of course I could have thought of some other things to do if there were that nice warm body next to me but alas that wasn't meant to be.

I wonder if there are any studies that have been done regarding the weather and libido because days like today and snowy days bring out the best of mine. Oh and bring on the thunderstorms!!! Nothing better than having some fun between the sheets during a wicked thunderstorm.

Anyone else like the idea of just curling up in bed on rainy and/or snowy days and whiling away the hours with someone hot and sexy by your side?

Taxing Pumpkins? Oct 31, 2007 10:21 am
Mood: Surprised, 558 Views
I've determined that the government needs to get it's dirty paws into everything. As we all know, pumpkins are a form of a squash and as such are considered edible. I know many people who still make pumpkin pies using real pumpkins rather than purchasing the canned pumpkin.

This year, the state of Iowa however decided that pumpkins are utilized more for Halloween decorating and therefore should be taxable rather than non-taxable (as is most food). They instituted a law requiring that the 6% sales tax be charged for all pumpkins sold UNLESS the purchaser was willing to complete a form stating that the pumpkin was going to be used for consumption purposes rather than decorating purposes.

Needless to say owners of pumpkin patches throughout the state of Iowa are quite disgruntled. Not only do they have to either lose 6% in revenues or raise their pumpkin prices by 6% to account for the state sales tax, they also have to ask customers how the pumpkins will be utilized to determine if they should be completing a waiver form or not.

The Iowa government has not yet assessed how much additional income will be generated from the new pumpkin tax, but they are assuming it should be a decent amount.

So what will they think of next to tax?
