| Informative Post Concerning Bling |
Jan 5, 2008 11:08 am Mood: Frustrated, 649 Views | I was recently contacted by an individual here on A*F*F who stated that I have "stolen" bling of hers from other web sites. I attempted to contact her to address her concerns, however my emails apparently did not go through and I have been banned from communicating with her.
She has subsequently contacted me threatening to "plaster" my name through A*F*F yet she has not allowed me to communicate with her in any fashion therefore I have not been able to explain what potentially may have occurred.
As a bling maker, I have gotten to the point of receiving numerous bling requests on a daily basis. Included in these requests was a recent request with attached photos of bling which the member had seen on another site. When I received these, I specifically asked if they were from this A*F*F affiliated site or if they were from another site. I stated to them that if it is a bling from this site that they should contact the bling artist who made the original bling and they can do any desired modifications. I went on to state that if the bling is from another site they should contact the artist on that site and see if they have an A*F*F membership and if they would be willing to make the bling here for them.
The member did as I requested on the other site and stated that the member did not contact her back. Since the bling was not from this site, and was not available to the requester, I decided to recreate the bling in her desired color scheme.
It is in no way my intention to "steal" bling from another individual. I was simply fulfilling a request because it was unavailable to her here. I have made well over 500 bling since I started doing it approximately a year ago and have always been aware of the other bling makers "styles" on A*F*F and try to have my own unique style.
I truly saw no harm in recreating these bling for the member since I had done the proper due diligence to ensure that it was unavailable to them on A*F*F. I had absolutely NO ill intentions at all.
When I received this accusatory email from a member here, I was shocked to say the least. I would have been more than willing to forward this request to her had I known she was the designer from the other website and would still be more than willing to forward future requests of this nature to her, however since she has blocked me from even being allowed to have an open line of communication, this makes it impossible to do.
I am very sorry that something like this has occurred as it is never my intent to copy bling from other bling designers. I have a very good relationship with many of the top bling makers here on A*F*F and I believe my reputation as a respected bling maker in the A*F*F community speaks for itself. | |

| Cold Start to the New Year |
Jan 4, 2008 6:29 am Mood: calm, 536 Views | | Well Mother Nature sure decided to bring in the New Year with a roar!! It has been incredibly windy with temperatures in the single digits (can't even imagine what the wind chill has been). At least today the wind has calmed down a bit but the temperatures are still way too frigid for my liking!!
I hope everyone had a very enjoyable New Year's Eve and Day. Mine was completely uneventful but at least it is the start of a new year and I can put 2007 behind me, hopefully for good. I'd definitely have to say it has been the most difficult year of my life thus far.
Here's offering cheers for a wonderful 2008 for everyone! Let's just hope the weather gets a bit warmer.....and here's to Spring coming early (how pitiful is that....wanting Spring already!!)
Well that's it from me for now....until next time have a great day!! |

| The Day After |
Dec 26, 2007 11:03 am Mood: cheerful, 539 Views | | Hi everyone! I hope you all had a very enjoyable and funfilled Christmas holiday. For us, it was a long day but filled with food, fun and frolic. My girls finally got the Wii system they've been bugging us for and it was a huge hit!! Even mommy and daddy got in on the action. I am not a huge video game play by any means but I will admit the Wii is very family oriented and the games we were playing were a blast!
Dinner was delicious as usual (yep I'm tooting my own horn!! I'm not ashamed to admit I am actually a very good cook. hehehehehe) I hadn't done a Prime Rib in a few years so that was my selection for this year. It came out just right and everyone ate so much there was very little in the way of leftovers....I'm not a huge fan of leftovers so that was a good thing.
My girls are now off to my parents for the rest of their school vacation. They left earlier this morning so the house is now quiet to say the least. I'll be able to take care of all the things that need to be done around here including taking down all the Christmas decorations. I love putting them up but will admit it isn't fun having to take them all down...that's just work!! LOL
Next thing to look forward to is New Year's Eve (although hubby says he doesn't want to do anything...booooo hooooo). After New Year's is the long haul of the typical New England winter. January and February are by far the worst months here...they seem to drag on and on and it is always so dark and dreary.
Well that's it for now. I think I've blabbered on long enough for now.
Ciao!! |

| Sad News |
Dec 21, 2007 5:54 am Mood: Saddened, 571 Views | | My mom called me early this morning and unfortunately they have to put the miniature Dachshund Scarlett to sleep today. Scarlett got sick several weeks ago and they determined she had an autoimmune disorder...her body was making red blood cells but something was attacking them. They put her on progesterone and she had a blood transfusion to try to bump start her system again and build her red blood cells back up. Unfortunately the transfusion didn't work and when my Mom and Dad woke up this morning, Scarlett couldn't even move the back half of her body.
Scarlett has always been very special to me because she was originally my dog. I got her in 1995 however when I moved to Seattle WA in 1996 I had to "temporarily" leave her with my parents until I got settled....of course once I was settled my parents had grown so attached to her that they didn't want to give her back so I let them keep her. I of course see my parents on a regular basis so I got to see Scarlett all the time and I was always her "Mommy"....
She will be greatly missed....of course my children were very upset but at least I was able to ease their sadness a bit by telling them that Scarlett would now be in doggie heaven with our two dogs Scrappy and Chase. We had to put Scrappy to sleep on December 23rd 4 years ago and we just put Chase to sleep this past February.
Funny, it seems that Christmas has been a mixed set of feeling for my family over the past 4 years. We now have Scarlett being put to sleep this year, last year I was diagnosed with cancer, the year before that my Mom slipped on a bit of ice on our driveway as we were on our way out to Christmas mass. We ended up spending Christmas Eve in the ER and she ended up with a broken wrist and a dislocated shoulder. The year before that we had to put Scrappy to sleep on the 23rd of December.....wow...how crazy is that!!
Anyway, the photo in the post is of Scarlett...may she rest in peace and have lots of fun in Doggy Heaven!! |

| Christmas Wrapping |
Dec 20, 2007 11:06 am Mood: Relieved, 499 Views | | Yahoo.....I started and finished all my gift wrapping today!! We decided this year that we were going to get the girls one big gift and a few littler gifts so there wasn't as much to wrap which was nice. They have been bugging us for a Nintendo Wii since they came out last year so we finally broke down and got it for them for Christmas. Let me tell you it wasn't as easy as you'd think to get your hands on one of those this year....you'd think since the console has been out for a year it would be a breeze but demand is still much higher than supply.
We also got a few things for them from Santa....yep both of my girls still believe in Santa including my 5th grader. I think I found out the truth when I was in 4th grade so I am happy that she still believes...I know once she finds out it will be ruined for the younger one....they have such a hard time keeping secrets from one another.
Funniest thing about that.....I went shopping with my oldest so she could buy her sister a gift...bought it, got home, hid it and she lectured me not to tell her sister....so what does she do....walks in the house and tells her what she bought her for Christmas.
A few days later I go shopping with my youngest so she can buy a gift for her sister. Same thing, we buy the gift, get home, hide it and she too lectures me about not telling her sister. And what does she do...walks in the house and proceeds to tell her sister what she bought her for Christmas!! It was like deja vouz!!
Anyway, one more thing down on my LONG list of things to do before Christmas Eve so I am very happy about that.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

5 Days Til Christmas!!

| 101 Dumbest Moments in Business 2007 |
Dec 18, 2007 5:43 am Mood: Informative, 499 Views | | I read a very interesting and somewhat comical article this morning about the 101 Dumbest business decisions made during the past year. I had to share a couple of the more interesting ones:
1. It's Gone to the Dog, Literally: Leona Helmsley leaves $12 million to her white maltese named Trouble. And just what is this dog going to do with this much money??
2. It's a Fat World, After All: Disneyland announces plans to close the “It’s a Small World” attraction to deepen its water channel after the ride’s boats start getting stuck under loads of heavy passengers. Employees are now asking larger passengers to disembark—and are compensating them with coupons for free food. Sure, let's just exacerbate the problem by giving them free food!
3. A New Meaning to Getting Buff: The Fitworld gym in Heteren, the Netherlands, introduces Naked Sunday. I would imagine only the buffest of members are now going on Sundays!!
4. We Seriously Mistrusted Those Sprinkles: Just one week after unveiling the world’s most expensive dessert—the $25,000 Frozen Haute Chocolate, 28 cocoas infused with edible 23-karat gold served in a goblet with a diamond bracelet at its base— New York restaurant Serendipity 3 is shut down for failing its second health inspection in a month. Inspectors find a live mouse, multiple piles of mouse droppings, fruit flies, houseflies, and more than 100 live cockroaches. Makes me not want to eat out at a restaurant again!!
5. It's Not As If Their Doing Brain Surgery or Anything: The state Department of Health fines Rhode Island Hospital $50,000 when, for the third time in less than a year, one of its doctors operates on the wrong side of a patient's head. This one hits way too close to home considering I live in Rhode Island. I can honestly say though I have never been to Rhode Island hospital. Once is bad enough but three times!!!???!!!
6. Virginia is for Bangers: The Virginia Tourism Corp. scraps an ad campaign featuring people making heart symbols with their hands after it's noted that the gesture is also the gang sign of Chicago's Gangster Disciples.
7. On the Bright Side, Their Learning a Lot About Anatomy: Nigerian schoolchildren receive $200 computers under the U.N. One Laptop Per Child program and quickly learn a few things nobody expected - such as how to find adult websites and how to store their favorite images on the computers' hard drives. Program leaders say future laptops will be fitted with filters. Wonder if any of them happened upon A*F*F!!
8. Fly the Not-So-Friendly Skies: A Southwest Airlines gate agent tells Kyla Ebbert - a 23-year-old college student and Hooters waitress wearing a denim miniskirt, high-heeled sandals, and a sweater over a tank top - that she's dressed too provocatively to be allowed on a flight from San Diego to Tucson. Though the agent ultimately relents and lets her onboard, an indignant Ebbert goes public, appearing on the Today show. Southwest takes a massive publicity hit; Ebbert is hired by Richard Branson to promote rival low-cost carrier Virgin America and by Playboy to pose for a pictorial. I think Ebbert owes the gate agent a huge debt of gratitude because without the gate agent, Ebbert would still only be a college student working at Hooters.
9. Fly the Don't-Get-To-Friendly-Skies: Singapore Airlines inaugurates the Airbus A380, the world's largest jet, with a seven-hour flight from Singapore to Sydney. To the chagrin of those who forked out $15,000 for one of 12 private, double-bed-equipped suites, the airline asks its passengers to refrain from having sex. Says first-class passenger Tony Elwood: "So they'll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne, and then say you can't do what comes naturally?" Heck, save the $15,000, fly coach and become a member of the "Mile High Club" the way many others have!!
10. Fly the Didn't-You-Learn-Anything- from-the-Kyla-Ebbert-Fiasco Skies: A man boarding a Southwest Airlines flight in Ohio is ordered to change his T-shirt, which depicts a fictional fishing shop with the words MASTER BAITER. The airline is again forced to apologize. Hmmmmmm, wonder why he didn't get an add promotion deal with another airline and a contract to model in Playgirl????
11. This One is Just Morbid: On a British Airways flight from New Delhi to London, first-class passenger Paul Trinder wakes up from a nap to find the corpse of a woman who had died in the economy cabin being placed in the seat next to him. Upon complaining about the incident, Trinder - a gold-level frequent flier who logs 200,000 miles a year with the airline - says he is told he will not be compensated and should just "get over it." |

| Christmas Cookies |
Dec 18, 2007 3:17 am Mood: tired, 470 Views | | Man what a day yesterday was!! I started my Christmas cookie baking....typically it is a tradition that my Mom and I do together but she is not arriving until later this week so I'm on my own this year. I definitely can't complain though because last year I wasn't able to do any baking since I was still recovering from surgery and had the second surgery to have my portocath put in.
I managed to whip out 7 batches yesterday and will finish up today then it is a matter of putting all the gift tins together. With all the doctors that constantly monitor me now I have an extra long list this year and I of course can't forget my oncology nurses who were so incredible and who I still visit regularly.
Do any of you have anything special you make for the Christmas holiday? A family tradition in the kitchen? I'm hoping that soon my girls will be more interested in helping out in the kitchen and then they can start helping with Christmas cookies each year. |

| Bling |
Dec 17, 2007 7:33 am Mood: Informative, 384 Views | | I just wanted to let everyone know that since there have been problems with bling on the site I have had to start charging 1 point for my bling. I have done this with the new bling I have made and with some of my more popular recent bling so that you have the capability of taking it.
When A*F*F did upgrades to the bling area of the site, something happened and unless a bling is very old, you can't take the free bling. I got numerous emails from members complaining because they weren't able to take my bling so I found out that if we charge the bling can be taken. I hate charging points for my bling and have always made it for free, however until this problem is fixed I need to charge the 1 point so that members can take teh bling.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause some of you. If you don't have any points available and are interested in certain bling, please send me an email and I can gift it to you. There were problems with gifting as well but I believe these have been resolved.
Also, thanks so much for all your continued interest in my bling. I love making it and love the fact that other people actually like it enough to use it!!
Have a great day!! |

| Most Recent Blood Tests |
Dec 13, 2007 5:22 pm Mood: Very Happy!!, 438 Views | | As many of you know, since having cancer I am regularly tested....blood tests, CT scans, colonoscopies.....seems I am forever seeing the doctors for one thing or another....I've gotten used to it because it will be part of my life forever.
Anyway, I had my 3 month blood tests completed and everything came back perfect My hemoglobin (iron levels) are even back to normal...heck it only took 6 months from the time my chemo ended for that to get back to normal!! I can honestly say except for the continuing neuropathy (a side effect of the oxaliplatin) I feel like my old self again!!
Next round of testing will be in March which will include both blood tests and a CT scan....the scans always make me a bit more anxious but at least I have a few months to breathe easy before having to worry about those! |

| New York City |
Dec 10, 2007 9:23 am Mood: Satisfied, 362 Views | | Well I can honestly say I now know what a sardine in a can of sardines feels like!!! NYC was SOOO crowded on Saturday when my family and I went in on Saturday to do some shopping and see the sites.
This was the first time my girls have been in New York City and it is truly amazing to see it through their eyes...after having been there so many times it seems just like another city to me but to watch them and to watch their faces light up when they saw how big the buildings were and how beautiful the tree was in Rockefeller Center made me see it all over again in a new light.
Of course they also enjoyed the Toys 'R' Us in Times Square.....for any of you that haven't been there, it truly is a tourist attraction as well as a toy store. There are 4 floors that surround a center 40 foot tall indoor ferris wheel. The ferris wheel cars are all themed based on the toys sold by the store...there was a Barbie Car, A My Little Pony Car(which I thought was the prettiest of them all), a Scooby Doo car, A Nickelodeon Car, to name but a few.....and it was only $4.00 per person to ride which trust me in New York is very reasonable.
The girls wanted to eat at Planet Hollywood so we ended up having our main meal there....they of course loved seeing all the movie memorabilia....I had this California Chicken Ranch Pizza which was absolutely phenomenal....I always like to try and find something unique that I don't see in restaurants around here so that was the choice of the day and it ended up being quite good so if you ever find yourself in a Planet Hollywood I highly recommend it.
Hubby and I are going back in to the City while the girls are on vacation with grandma and grandpa....I haven't been there to see a Broadway show since I saw Miss Saigon so I'd say it is time to see another one!!
Until next time...have a great day! |

| Handmade Ornaments |
Dec 5, 2007 7:14 pm Mood: Busy, 436 Views | | It's a funny thing....I do nice things for people and that always leads to me doing more things. I had my cancer support group meeting today. Since it is close to Christmas and since I've been making handmade ornaments with my girls for the tree this year, I decided I would make a little handmade ornament for each of the individuals in my cancer support group.
The ornaments were really cute....I used permanent marker and drew holly on them and then used red glitter for the holly berries....I then wrote such things as "Survivor", "Cancer Survivor" or "Find a Cure" on them since they were for people who have all been through cancer. I then finished them off with a small bow and pretty ribbon. I also did some that had the cancer ribbon in a variety of colors (based on the type of cancer) and decorated those with glittering dots and ribbon as well (photo in post shows an example of the ornament).
Well one of the women who attends the meetings is a nurse at the hospital and also a chairperson for our local "Relay for Life" which I am also a part of. Come to find out, she is doing a craft fair this weekend for "Relay for Life" to raise money for this summer's event. She loved my ornaments and wished she had known how crafty I was earlier so I could make some for the craft show this weekend. Well of course, being the person that I am, I told her I could make some by Friday night for the craft show on Saturday.
She was ecstatic so now I will be busy tomorrow and Friday making as many ornaments as I can get done. It is of course for a wonderful cause and I hope that they sell so we can raise money for the "Relay for Life". By the time Friday night comes I am sure I will be thoroughly sick of making ornaments but it will be well worth it...Wish me luck!!! |
