Part II of "It was water works at work today."

I told you all that I had a resident pass away this week. Well his wife came in today to gather his stuff, and yes the water works started again.

I helped her with his things to the car, and she intorduced me to her daughter and she said "This was dads favorite girl, his girlfriend." She hugged me and gave me a pic of him, and promised to come eat supper with me sometime. I felt really good.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had told you about the husband and wife who had never been seperated in 28 years, and how he slept outside, cause my boss would not let him stay every night with his wife.
Well, I get to work and he is waiting for me, he hugs me and thanks me for helping him. I tell him I had a question for him I was wondering about. "Do you eat?" "Where and what do you eat?"
He says "OOO I have a few things in the car." OMFG, in the two weeks his wife has been there, he has not had a meal. He has been eating out of his car! God I am pissed! I asked him why and he says they wanted to charge him for every meal and he does not have that kind of money.
I tell him, I am gonna get him fed! He tells me not to bother and I ask him "Why will you not listen to me and take my help!" I tell him he IS getting supper and he is sleeping with his wife. No ifs ands or buts!
I go to the kitchen and tell them he is eating supper tonite, make him a tray, they tell me it will be $2.50. I tell them put it on my meal ticket! And I told them they could put every supper he has on my meal ticket!
He comes up the hall to me later, and hugs me telling me no one has helped them since he has been here. Just me! He starts crying! OMG, it is bad to see someone cry, but to see a man cry cause you fed him a meal and made sure he slept comfortable, is nuts!
How can we run a business of caring for people when this is how we treat someone? But Iam glad I made his stay happier!
And the one bad part about my day. We have a resident going in for a procedure tomorrow, and I had to go to his room every 10 minutes and pour him a 4oz glass of this stuff called golightly, to get his ass cleaned out! Ever 10 mins until this gallon was gone! This is the third time and he can never get cleaned out enough to do it. God I hate doing it!
Up side, WE HAVE EYE CANDY AT WORK!!!!! They finished remodling the first shower room and come back tomorrow to start the other. And one of them is cute, and one I know I could rock his world!
_____You could rock "his" world. You are limiting yourself way to much. You're good enough that you could rock any guys world. ///// The "How can we be in the business of caring for people when this is how we treat someone?" thing...You answered your own question. It's a business. When caring becomes a business, it generally ceases to stop being about caring, and starts being about profit. I could be wrong, but it seems to me, that in better bygone days, family cared for the sick and dying. That was caring. You care. The "business" that you work for doesn't.
skyking412004-- I just do not see how some people I work with could not be torn up by this situation. We talked tonite, what if this man went to the local newspaper and told his story of sleeping int he parking lot, and not having proper food to eat? If the towns people got as emotional about it as a few of us staff did, they would black ball our facility, and then what money would our boss have.
We have a system at work that is called "HOME TOWN HOSPITALITY" and it says first comes the residents, second comes the staff, third comes the community. So what would the community think if the staff was neglectful of the rights and feelings of our residents and their family members, due to not being able to make a profit off of one old man who wants to be with his wife?
I still hope one day I have a man as devoted to me as this man is to his wife. She must have been one hell of a woman to get this man to do the things he is for her. He spoke to me today about the fact she has CHF(congestive heart failure) And as he was talking to me he started to cry, cause he said "She will be leaving me one day, and then I will be alone, and then what will I have, who will I be then?" I know I have never had a man feel that strongly about me before. And I hope I do now.
_____I feel sad for the old guy. Can you even IMAGINE how he's going to feel when she's gone. I think I want to be an elephant in the wild, and just go off and die by myself when it's time. Death brings too much heartache.
