An Assisi day

It's been a long day, got woken at 6am by a hellishly noisy face-off in the garden between an injured vixen, 3 crows and a seagull. At first I thought the vixen had taken a baby gull but no sigh of that, and she was bleeding, so I think they were just mobbing her for that reason. I chased the birds off but she was up and over the wall so that was that. I guess she'll be ok.

Later, I found this little thing exhausted, I think the strong winds were too much for him. He was completely flat to the leaf, I thought he was dying. Two droplets of black cherry juice later, which I scraped under his mouthparts with a snapped length of dried spaghetti, he was managing to feed himself even though he was a bit tottery at first. I knew he'd survive when he raised his wings and moved forward to really tuck in. Then he flew off, and an opportunistic ant was next through the door of the Assisi restaurant. I'm glad he made it, don't like things to die needlessly.

Today seems to be an Assisi day.

Not many people would do that - I remember fishing a sparrow out of the radiator grille of a car once - once of the most useful things I ever did

I wouldn't think much of any person who didn't take a moment to help a creature in need, Chris. As humans and theoretically a higher order, we're responsible for the welfare of other living things. If you like, I can show you the other photos I took. Drop me a mail addy if you want.
