My nameless blog finally gets a name!

I finally named my blog. Some people on here have had problems getting The Powers That Be to accept their blog names. We'll see how this one goes. Meanwhile, thanks to rockwriter58 for suggesting the name.

However, any idea that there's some connection between me and the Pillsbury Dough Boy is based on a fallacy. We don't have anything in common. Well, there's that "Hee hee!" sound we both make when someone pokes us in the stomach with a finger. But that's all. Honest.

I should probably explain my handle. I've never been creative at thinking up user names. There are various sites online that will generate a nickname for you if you type in your real name. These sites are usually based on themes. There's one with a Star Wars theme, one with a Sopranos theme, one with a Harry Potter theme, one with a cowboy theme, and so on. My handle comes from a site that will generate a computer geek nickname from your real name. I've never been crazy about it, but I liked it a lot better than what came out of the other sites. And it's sort of grown on me by now.

In other words, any connection between me and the Pillsbury Dough Boy is strictly coincidental.

(I don't even have that much to do with computers. Oh, I use them at work a lot. I consider myself an intermediate user. I'm one of the ones who gets called to help out when the computer services guys are swamped. I used the Internet before anyone called it that. But I'm not really a computer geek.)

I did a little research on the Pillsbury Dough Boy this weekend. He's an interesting little guy with a large fan base.

I knew his real name is Poppin' Fresh. I figured he was created sometime around the mid-sixties, and I was right (1965, to be precise).

I didn't know he has a family. He has a wife named Poppy; two kids (I'm not clear on their gender) named Popper and Bun Bun; and a cat and dog named, respectively, Biscuit and Flapjack. I've also heard rumors of parents and a bachelor uncle.

I didn't know he was originally voiced by Paul Frees, who did a gazillion cartoon voices, including Boris Badenov from Rocky & Bullwinkle (probably my favorite cartoon of all time). Frees supposedly made $50,000 a year doing just the Dough Boy's voice.

I didn't know that, according to polls, over 75% of people think Poppin' Fresh is a virgin. (Who the hell thinks to poll people about such a thing?! I guess it's the same kind of people who have enough time on their hands to write websites that will generate a nickname for you based on your real name.)

I'm starting to feel a real affinity for the little doughy guy. I may have to start collecting Dough Boy memorabilia. Yesterday there were 237 Dough Boy-related items on eBay. Sorting through them could keep me busy for a while.

LOL... I had often wondered about that myself. Good for rockwriter58 to actually suggest it to you. I love that little guy... I think it is a good choice.

Congrats on your new blog name!!!!

He must be a virgin.
After all, where's his peepee?
Does it pop out when you poke him in the belly?
(hence the gleeful laughter!)

Thanks, Rose. Actually, for a long time I considered something based on a comment you made on my first blog post: Weblogs Wobble But They Don't Fall Down! I still kind of like that.

jayR, I'm skeptical about the virgin theory. He's got a wife and kids, after all. Of course, they could have just popped fully formed out of a can somewhere. Needs more study.

As for what happens when you poke him in the belly, I know that when I get poked in the belly ... well, never mind. Some things are just TMI.

For someone who'd never even heard of the doughy creature before now, and therefore completely missed the pun of your handle (sorry xx) I have to say that I now know a bit too much about him. You want to watch that searching the internet stuff. People will think you have a fixation for poking warm dough.
