Absurd or ridiculous?

This is a picture of a figure I have in my office. It's made of some kind of resin that's supposed to resemble stone. It's a cat wearing a scuba mask with his head popping up through the bottom of a birdbath. Someone gave it to me. I love it because it's so absurd.

Most of the people who see it say, "You should put little goldfish in there!" What would goldfish be doing in a birdbath? That's just ridiculous.

One day someone put little mallards in it when I wasn't around. They're not to scale--notice how much smaller they are than the cat--but at least they're birds. They even have real feathers. I love it. It's absurd. But not ridiculous.

Pray tell what is the fine line between absurd and ridiculous?
I like the yellow rubber tub duckies.
If someone took your ducks, replaced them, then took them again, you would be reduckuless.

jayR, absurd is just ridiculous without the element of ridicule. If you feel like making fun of it, it's ridiculous. If you don't understand it but just accept it and move on, it's absurd.

It's possible you may think my distinction is either absurd or ridiculous. Chacun a son gout.

I have a black devil-horned tub duckie. It came in a gift box of Axe shower gel. I'll have to send you a picture. It's absurd. But not ridiculous.

No one's taking my ducks. I attached them with duck tape.

When I first saw this it looked like a cat was serving it's own head up on a plate. But that probably says more about me than the picture.

I kind of get the goldfish comments though. It has a fountain feel about it, don't you think? The cat should have a snorkel and be squirting water up into the sky.

pootle, there's only so much you can see with the dinky sizes this site allows for blog pictures. The cat is actually wearing a snorkel, too; it just doesn't show up very well. Guess I should have mentioned that.

Your fountain idea is intriguing. Of course, a fountain should have goldfish. And pennies. Anyone who wants to throw pennies into it is welcome. Larger denominations, too.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I had never given it that much thought before
