The good old days, well not that old....

Song of the day: Conjunction Junction-School House Rock

A bit of looking back, more nostalgia from nostalgic types.

Was watching teletubbies with my little one. Overly cute little “aliens?” that live in an earth dome, dance around, eat goop and toast that gets vacuumed up by a friendly vacuum, then a pin wheel spins and they watch kids doing stuff on there TV tummies. Seems like harmless nonsense, probably not better or worse than what we watch as kids, speaking to those relatively our age, post howdy doody.

Sesame street I have to say is not equal to what it was 20-30 years ago. (The loss of Jim Henson) It is a toy commercial it seems, Elmo takes half the show with his useless ramblings. Snuffy can be seen by all it seems. The count is not the same either, Oscar is not as grouchy, maybe it is just me?

Where are the Yip Yip martians? I love the yip yip martians, yip yip yip then a phone would ring burrrrriiinng burrrring yip yip yip. Made as much sense as teletubbies, but loved it. The game show guy, Harry monster, have not seen them in ages. Was very surprised to see Maria still there, she was introduced before I started school.

Bert Ernie gay? What the F--? What kid thinks in terms of gay or straight? Unless some adult starts toying with their minds, they are not gay; they are just Ernie and Bert.

Electric company loved it, when I saw Morgan Freeman in movies I was trying of think where I remembered him from. One day while net surfing Duh! Easy Reader. Ground breaking show, just too young to know it.

Singing
HEY YOU GUYS!

We're gonna turn it on.
We're gonna bring you the power
We're gonna light up the dark of night like the brightest day in a whole new way
We're gonna turn it on we're gonna bring you the power
It's coming down the lines, strong as they can be
Through the courtesy of The Electric Company
The Electric Company. The Electric Company!

Oh how could I forget the Kroft shows Lidsville, HR Puff’n Stuff, cant get a little if you cant get enough. Bananasplits (hated them) Sigmond seamonster, and the bad lip sync music. Electro woman Dyna girl, wonder bug, Dr. shrinker, Captain Kool.
Marshal, Wil, and Holly on a routine expedition…. To the land of the lost.. Sleestak, hiiissss hiiiiss (The guy who played Wil now produces PBS Dragon Tales)

I am glad you can buy School House rock on DVD. Woo hoo. Those little videos got me through school. I impressed my history professor by being able to recite the preamble to the Constitution. I could count by 5s 3s 2s. I owe the Makers of School House Rock a fortune for keeping me out of special Ed class Hahaha.

I guess when you are a kid you never realize how valuable these good times are. How few there will be, and what they will mean when you are older. As the song says “ Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got ‘til it’s gone. They pave paradise and put up a parking lot. “

Warner Brothers cartoons were my thing. They taught me an appreciation for the arts, from classical music and opera to literature. Of course, there were the gunshots and explosions, and the occasional fall off a cliff turning into a flat pancake and then tip-toeing away. There was a brief movement in the 80s to surgically remove the gunshots and explosions, but the movement lasted almost as long Brittney Spears' first marriage.

Let me drive. I like the view

Jesus, you brought back a ton of memories.

The martians - Cow. Cow? Yip yip yip. Mooooooo! Nope nope nope.

Electric Co. - Letterman takes the F off his shirt and replaces the D in duck...

Most people don't remember that Snuffy could only be seen by Big Bird. And there was Mr. Looper - - Hooper!

Don't forget Hair Bear, Hong Kong Fooie and my all time favorite Rocky and Bullwinkle!

Thanks for dragging up some good memories. Oh, and put your Space Modulator away.

Yoiks and away!
