My Favorite Slut

Song of the day: Nasty Girl ‒ Vanity

My favorite “Slut” in history I would have to say is Lucrezia Borgia.

Born 4/14/ 1480 she is daughter of Rodrigo Borgia aka Pope Alexander VI. If you are to read popular Italian history, watch Victor Hugo plays or read THE FAMILY by Mario Puzo (The writer of the God Father series) you would believe she slept with her brother and very likely her father. You would believe she had a secret compartment in a ring she would use to poison drinks. The Pope watched Lucrezia consomate her marriages. She had the incestuous child of her brother. She would basically have sex with anyone.

She was arranged into political marriages for the benefit of her Father and Brother Cesare. She was not ugly, as most accounts even from enemies are that she was unusually beautiful. However during this time political maneuvering and “Machiavellian” tactics were the norm. Her beauty was a resource for her father and brother to use to their advantage.

Lucrezia was happily married to Alphonso of Aragon, a Duke and relative to the crown of Naples. Trying to position her brother to the crown of Naples, this marriage was her secondone, arranged by her father, she was happy with this marriage arrangement. In Alponso’s court he and Lucrezia brought in many artist and intellectuals of that time. Before a progressive movement could occur, Ceazare was rebuffed by the princess of Naples. With Naples out of favor with the pope, Alphonso fled to Germany in fear of his life. So no happiness for Lucrezia. When she spoke out against her father and brother, she was banished.

After her father died, and her brother killed in revenge, she lived the final decade of her life as the duchess of fererra and a progressive and compassionate voice for the people. She was head of the court of citizens petitions. (Closest thing to an ombudsmen at that time.) She again studies with the intellectuals of her time, funded hospital and schools. She died at age 39 during child birth.

She was deeply religious, classy, and compassionate to nearly all. She was not really a slut at all, but a strong woman who did her best at a time when progress for women was limited. She was the victim of the reputation of her ruthless father and brother.

I always feel for those who were attractive and do their best, but never have the luck they need to reach their full potential. Scandal mongers, drama whores, and the apathy like to lead to ruin. Tragic figures are always of interest to me. So I thought I would post some drivel.

Have a great weekend..

P&S- Great post! Very interesting! It really is a shame when people are mis-labeled (is that even a word? lol).

Btw, I'm with Red- maybe there will be a future post in your blog about Caligula?? (Watch the movie. It's very disturbing, yet interesting!)
