Almost Wise

Song of the day: Don't Phunk With My Heart-Black Eyed Peas

I am lazy today so I cut and pasted some of my favorite wise sayings. I have a bunch stored on my computer, here are 20 of my favorites. Hope you enjoy!

1-"Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground." ‒ Anonymous

2-“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog.“-Unknown

3-“Genius is ninety percent perspiration and ten percent inspiration.” - Thomas Edison

4-“Great chiefs prove their worthiness.” - Seneca Proverb

5-“Good words are worth much and cost little.” - George Herbert
6-“Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves." -Henry David Thoreau
7-"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." - Albert Einstein
8-“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.”- Bertrand Russell.
9-“The superior man thinks always of virtue; the common man things of comfort.” -Confucius
10-"No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson

11-"The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding." - Justice Louis Brandeis

12-“The worst government is the most moral. One composed of cynics is often very tolerant and humane. But when fanatics are on top there is no limit to oppression." -H.L. Mencken

13-“Beware the fury of a patient man.” -John Dryden
14-“Prevention is better than cure.” -Erasmus
15-“We may be personally defeated, but our principles never.” -William Lloyd Garrison
16-“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.” -William Blake
17-“Win without boasting. Lose without excuse.” -Albert Payson Terhune
18-“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would rather have talked.” -Mark Twain
19-There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. -Edith Wharton
20-“The thing always happen that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.” -Frank Lloyd Wright

And the scary one
#21-“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country"- NAZI Hermann Goering

Have a FUN DAY, and thanks for stopping by

Excellent quotes and almost all are true. If only we could remember them with foresight not hindsight! or is that just me.
The last one is the biggest. We should learn from history to predict the future. Nazi/communist values can easliy be turned round and sold to the masses under a cloak of hysteria and hatred.
Only a few months ago British MP Tony Benn was quoted as saying 'never take democracy for granted, it is very difficult to gain and very easy to loose. And we may not even realise we have lost it until it has gone'.
Sorry to get a bit deep!

Hey Frisky, that's all we bloggers are: people with lots to say - go for it.

I'm half asleep, so these are about all I can up with:

Change is the only constant in the Universe...
Revenge is a dish best served cold...
Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it...
No good deed goes unpunished...

Boy, I must be tired and cranky today...

And, I have no clue who said this One is a Klingon proverb...
