A profound statement!

"It's because they're stupid. That's why. That's why everybody does everything." Homer Simpson

I don't like this statement one bit! But try as I may I cannot negate it!

This leaves me with two possibilities. Either "A" I'm a fool and don't know it or "B" I realize I am a fool. I feel I'm a mixture of both. I prefer to be "B" in most cases as opposed to "A". Although... "A" does seem to have it's perks!

Unfortunately, I cannot fault the logic myself. Being a fool and not knowing it is much more fun than being a fool and knowing it. So I prefer to be 'A' just because it's less annoying to my psyche.

Well, option B was what led Socretes to a death sentence. (I'll spare you and your readers the story unless anyone wants to hear it.)

But some (including me) have suggested that every chain of inference, both theoretical and practical, faces perfectly reasonable counteraguments. As Wittegnstein says, explanation has to end somewhere--because we are finite beings, after all, with finite time and resources. But you can always add yet one more consideration, so every action is in a sense not fully rational. Still, you would be foolish to wait for the "ultimate answer." If you did, you would never act . . and that's irrational.

B all the way. B is at least honest, and it opens lots of doors. Embrace your B - That's where you want to be.

I once knew a woman who was so stupid she did not realize she was stupid. Not mentally handicapped - just plain ol' stupid. She was the happiest person I ever knew, like a child in an adult's body. Until I met her, I never trully understood the saying "Ignorance is bliss."
