No more Mr nice guy!

So tonight T and I knocked on the door to see if our flatmates who moved in a few weeks ago had set up an automatic payment for rent which we had asked them to do last week.

We were sick of having to hassle them for rent each week so wanted them to do that so the money would go to us before they had a chance to spend it.

The guy opened the door and we asked if they had set it up and he said
"Oh we're actally moving out next Wednesday because we can't afford this place and we found a new place."

So I got quite pissed off and said that they are supposed to give us 2 weeks notice. And he said "Oh we're not totally sure if we're moving yet!"

So I've just finished typing out a letter for them saying that they have to pay us the rent they owe us either pay us an extra 2 weeks for the notice period or to be out by this weekend.

I was almost going to kick them out anyway for not paying us rent that they owed us so I guess they made the decision for me.

So its back to looking for a new flatmate! Ts boyfriend is still living here so he said he would cover the rent if we don't find someone straight away so thats good.

I just don't understand how there are so many people who are so disrespectful they don't think they have to pay rent every week and think other people will cover it!

Or if there aren't really that many of them, why the hell do they keep coming to this house!

When we are interviewing new flatmates I am going to say if you can't pay rent you're out. No more Mr Nice Guy!

I am sympathetic. I had something similar happen to me.

I think it goes without saying that if you move in someplace that you're going to actually pay the rent.

There's nothing nice about being a landlord. Reminds me of that George Thorogood song... "One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer". He says that he tells the landlady that he's got a job and he's gonna pay the rent... and she's all lovey-dovey.

I'm not actually the landlord. My name is on the lease, along with my flatmate T but since I'm the "responsible" one I just took charge of keeping track of the accounts etc.

At least I will learn from my mistake and make sure the next person pays us rent in advance and bond in case something happens and they can't pay rent!

Thanks for the comment.

Peche you are so fierce. Rawr. I like!! Well anyway, when it comes to business, no money no talk. Who cares if these cheap bastards have a place to live or not? It's a great idea to be firm about who you are renting the place to especially those who can pay I will hide underneath your bed.
