Well as all of you know, last Friday was Good Friday. Which means everyone who works gets paid time and a half and gets a day in leiu.

My work closed on Good Friday so they could have a work easter party which meant no work for me

If you usually work on a holiday but its closed, you get paid for it anyway. Did they pay me for it?

I thought they were trying to get out of paying us because on the roster, for the managers, supervisors and hosts it had STAT written in Friday's box. But for us lowly waitresses, it was just blank.

I asked around and got told by the host that I would get paid as long as I'm part time not casual (which I am) and as long as I usually work Friday (I have worked every Friday since I started).

Then the supervisor was telling me the same thing and one of the managers was standing there and said that they always try to get out of paying people for statutory holidays!

So tomorrow night I am marching in there with my contract and not working til they agree to pay me hehehe. Hopefully the other girls will back me lol.

Apparantly on New Years Eve all the waitresses were gonna go on strike cos they weren't paying them properly.

What outfit is this?
You know that you can report them to the Department of Labour.

My suggestion is rather than make too big a scene over it which gets you off side with your superiors, make some further enquiries by giving the department a call and just so casually drop them in it or when you confront the boss, do it politely and mention that you have spoken to the dept to confirm what the actual story is.

That usually puts the fear of god in an employer.

Last year when I had staff, I had one person who was PITA so rang the dept quite a bit to make sure I was squeaky clean.

Half baked advise can get you wond up and in a whole pile of dog doo from on high!

Best of luck

Peche I was so damn underpaid when I worked at a local cafe back then. They made me work on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and fuck I didn't get any doubles when they were supposed to pay me. Oh well life goes on. I'm glad that I quit on them

Who is this Nice Guy around here? He's not only got a nice personality, but also talks sense!!

So young Lady (note the L not l) get yourself on the phone to the DofL AFTER you get you pay slip, so you have more than the thoughts of someone else to go on, and just watch those guys get your (and everyone else's0 money paid!

As long as no one internally tells on you they will never know who it was as the Dept protects your identity

Well I talked nicely to my manager about it tonight and she didn't understand why I didn't get paid. Some of the other girls didn't either but she said she couldn't do anything til our payslips arrived from Auckland and then she would sort it out. Hopefully they will be able to pay me next week since I'm only working 2 days this week so it will be nice to have a bit extra
