papyrina's story

The place - Havana, Cuba
The time - 1948...after the Great War...and the world is trying to put the pieces back together.

She felt like she had stepped into another world...a world full of different sounds, sights, smells, experiences. Standing on the street outside of the boat dock, she felt like she was alone in a tornado of people scurrying here and there. She had left her home in England after the war, after she had received the telegram, THAT telegram...the one that began, "His Majesty regrets to inform you..." There was nothing left for her in England, so she decided to take a chance and explore the world, and Cuba seemed as good as a place as any to begin.

But at the moment, she was trying to make herself be understood by a taxi driver who looked at her as from another planet. Her Spanish wasn't that good...probably as good as the driver's English. As she was trying to find out how to get to her hotel, she felt someone grab her purse. A little boy took off running through the crowd. Before she could even begin to shout, a hand grabbed the boy by scruff of the neck and lifted him off his feet. She stood wide-eyed as a tall man drug the boy over, who meekly handed her purse back to her. The tall man growled, "What do you say to the lady?" The boy murmured something in Spanish, then twisted away, disappearing into the crowd.

The man looked at her and said, with just a hint of a drawl, "Have to be careful around here...some people will rob you blind if you're not careful. Which hotel are you staying at?" She stammered the name of the hotel, and the man ushered into the car, made sure her luggage was secured to the top, then growled at the driver, who responded and started the car down the road away from the bustling port.

As they pulled up to the hotel, the man got out and helped her out of the taxi. She marveled at how, though his hands were rough, his touch was gentle; as if he were afraid to grip too hard for fear of breaking something. She asked him, "Sir, is there anyway I can repay you for recovering my purse?"

He thought about it for a minute, then his face broke out in a slow grin, "How about joining me for dinner? It'll give me a chance to show you show you the real Havana" She heard a voice saying, "Okay"...and was surprised to find out it was her own voice.

When she went downstairs to meet her mysterious host for the evening, she found him standing there, much cleaner than when she first met him, but still a little rough looking around the edges. He offered his arm and they walked out. As they made there way to the street, he made a sharp turn towards the waterfront. She didn't say a word, until he led her to a old, but durable looking boat. Winking at her, he quipped, "Quickest way to get to dinner. Care to come aboard?" She laughed at his rough gallantry and gladly took his offered hand.

On the way over, they got to know each other: his name was Ernest and he was an American who, in his own words, "left from nothing to go to war, and had nothing to go back to after the war". So he made his way to Cuba, to write, drink, fish, escape. She told him about her life in England, and how it had ended when she received the news that her love didn't make it back. He said nothing, only to point out landmarks on the shore, twinkling like stars across the water.

As they pulled up against the dock, she could hear rhythmic music coming from nearby. She looked at her new friend, who smiled and said, "It's a wedding party. I was invited, but didn't want to come alone. I'm glad you accepted." He offered his arm again and they made their way into the house, where a party was in full bloom. Her new friend made the introductions, and they made their way through the crowd to a semi-quiet table. She looked at the couples dancing on the patio and smiled. He stood up and took her by the hand. "It's quite easy, just let the music take you." She blushed furiously and stammered, "But there's no room on the dance floor!" He threw back his head and laughed, "On the contrary, we have the whole dance floor to ourselves!!!" And away they went.

It was a whirlwind of second she was in the arms of her escort, then she was being spun around by another man, who smiled and passed her along to the next dancing man. She looked over and saw the tall American dancing with one partner after another. That was when she started to figure out the secret of latin dancing: it's not just two people, but everybody coming together to celebrate. She laughed and let herself be swept along with the rhythm, her body moving suggestively with the salsa music...every eye on her as she danced.

When the band started to play a slower, more sensual song, she found herself in the arms of her new American friend. She looked up into his bearded face and his dark eyes, then put her head against his chest. He ran his hand down her back, feeling her tremble slightly at his touch. "Would you like to go somewhere else?" She nodded and they made their way back to his boat.

As they made their way back across the water, she felt so comfortable with this mysterious man. He said he was a writer, but that he was just taking in Cuba at his own pace. What else did he take at his own pace? she wondered. Suddenly, the impulse hit her; she reached up and kissed him hungrily. He looked at her with surprise on his face. "Are you sure about this?", he said quietly, "you hardly know me." Without a word, she stood and undid the clasp on her dress, letting it fall to the deck of the boat. He admired her body- long legs, full but not oversized breasts, a beautiful heart-shaped bottom. He pulled her down to him and, rolling her over, started kissing her, working his way down to her sensitive spot. Her mind raced; she'd never had anyone kiss her down there before. When his bearded face reached her pussy, she moaned and spread her legs wider, letting him taste all of her.

All too quick, he raised up, the boat was coming back to the dock at the hotel. She quickly dressed and they hurried back to her room. Closing the door, she fell into his arms, both of them falling back on the bed. They practically ripped their clothes off as they kissed. She straddled him and slowly lowered herself onto his hard-on, moaning as he filled her. She sat motionless for a few seconds, letting herself get used to him inside had been so long. Then she started to move, remembering the rhythm of the music. He started to move with her...both of them hearing the same music of passion and lust in their imagination. They danced this way all through the night...

The next morning, she woke up to find that she was alone. As she pulled on her robe, a piece of paper slid off the bed...a note. She picked it up and read:

My love,

I'm sorry I had to leave, but I have to go out for awhile. Thank you for last night; I hope we can spend more time together during your visit here in Havana.

Thank you also for giving me the inspiration again to write. I thought I wasn't going to write for quite awhile, but being with you...watching you come out of your shell made me realize that I, too, had to break out.

I'll see you tonight.

All my love,

E. Hemmingway

She held the note to her face and inhaled his scent that lingered on the note and in her the music drifted in through her window...

OK, I'm buying this book I do hope you plan to do something with your stories. Would be a terrible waste not to try to entice a publishing company, ya know.

Absolutely Stunning!

wow, what a wonderful story. I loved how you brough a well known person into it. It just made it all the more real. You most definitely have wonderful writing, and I agree with the others that say you should think about being published. Anyone who would turn your stories down is nuts!

Thanks so much for sharing, and I can't wait until you get to mine. I love reading all the others while I'm waiting

That was an incredibly romantic and sensuous story NG. Arousing and beautiful. I agree that you might want to consider shopping around with these stories you write to see if there's a venue that you'll want to share them in besides this one. You are a talented writer...and what impresses me most is that you change the style and atmosphere to suit. Wonderful job. I'd say how aroused I am...but as you noticed earlier when you read my blog, I can't get any hornier right now, so you'd know I was fibbing at the moment. LOL! Any other days though and I'd go from 0 to 50 by the end of the read on this one though. Already at 50 as you know.

Yup...this juiciness is from me....

Does it 'count' in any way that I had guessed the mystery man way before {since I, too, am a Hemingway 'fan'}? Still...I would say that you are at least as good a writer as he ever was...and I would say better...but either way you will dismiss the compliment! I am not particularly into 'erotica' myself...but your stories actually have a plot along with everything else, so it all meshes in...well, enough for me to turn down the air conditioning....

Nightguy_1961 replies on 6/30/2006 3:18 am:

Glad to hear it...not a lot of female Hemmingway fans that I know of, glad to know you're one.

Sorry about the a/c problem...was it something I wrote?

BaronessK 52F

6/30/2006 6:49 am

"Sorry about the a/c problem...was it something I wrote?" Why, NG, what ever would make you think THAT? {Noticing, yes, that I did NOT answer the question! }

{I really enjoyed the time element; I am such a sci-fi geekess about time 'stuff'. I did a book report on, what was it...The Sun Also high school, and had probably already read the Old Man in the Sea around that time, and went from there, although I haven't read much more than that from him as I have such a large area of interests when reading; floored the English teacher. Went to Captain Tony's in Key West; Papa's ghost does indeed 'walk' there. Met a customer once, and commented how much he looked like Hemingway; said he ought to take a trip to Florida and enter the contest -- he looked at me like I was crazy, which although a not uncommon happening with me, he later admitted he had already been in several of those and had at least placed and won at least I forever called him Hemingway.}

Nightguy_1961 replies on 7/1/2006 12:59 am:
I've been to the Hemingway House...played with the cats.

Someday, I hope to visit Havana and visit the places he frequented...
