When the present meets the future........

After a strange Friday night at work, I finally headed home for a quick cup and then, with my lady in hand, headed to the hospital to see the newest addition to the family.

Without going into too much personal detail, this was a limit for me to cross. I shy away from babies; not because I don't like them, but because I was there for the birth of my youngest son, who was taken from me thanks to a real beyatch and high priced lawyers.

We walked into the room. My stepson was there, looking tired, but still in that "OMG...I'm a father!!!" daze. His wife was, of course, still in bed, looking over pictures to send out to family (Since when did hospitals get into the portrait selling business? )

I put on a hospital gown and got situated in a chair. Sheeesh....with the way everyone was acting, you'd thought I was having a baby . My lady handed me the tiniest bundle I'd ever seen in my life. Joshua Dane was fast asleep...hey, he'd had a rough Friday, thank you very much!!!

Everybody kept saying that 'he needs to eat', so my lady started tickling his feet. Needless to say, JD didn't like that one damn bit...and didn't hesitate to let everyone in the next county know it!!!! (btw...JD is a working nickname...though I think I'm going to call him either Jocephus or 'hunkhammer'...it's a Grandpa thang, you wouldn't understand)

How do you describe beauty? How do you describe pure innocence? Can't be done...but I was holding it in my rough, time scarred hands. I put my finger near his hand and he gently wrapped his tiny hand around it...like he was saying, "Hiya Old Man!!! Is it fishing season yet?"

Finally, JD opened his eyes and looked dead at me. Now I know, babies less than a day old don't have the most perfect vision, but he looked me dead in the face. His blue eyes tried to focus on my face and the sound of my voice. His tiny face went through about 20 different expressions, like he wanted to say something so profound, but couldn't find the right words. So he just grunted and fussed, like a little old man slightly peeved at something.

As much as I hated to put him down, I needed to get home to sleep (@#@#$!$# work)and my lady needed to get to work. JD just went back to sleep...our first meeting a sucess.

All I could say to my stepson and his wife was, "Ya done good, kids, ya done good."

I heard my Dad came by later to meet his great grandson. Wish I could have been there...four generations in one room. And, as stupid as it sounds, I had the feeling that THE Old Man (my late Grandfather) came by to take a peek. People believe that angels walk among us...even crusty old former fishermen with beat up fedoras, so I know the Old Man was there.

NG....sitting on his mountain with a strange warm feeling in his soul.

this touch my heart...ty NG and Yes angels and past ancestors walk amoung us, my people believed that at a birth they gathered to speak a blessing over the new memebers of a clan. it is said that the wolfclan can be heard in the rain. i find myself listening sometimes. Congradulations to You and lady! and blowing a soft kiss to the babe.chelle.
