So long...for now at least...

"I think...that I'm quite ready...for another adventure!"
-an elderly Bilbo Baggins,as he set out to sail across the Great Sea. LOTR: The Return of the King

A little after 7am US eastern time on Friday, July 7 2006, I will have walked out of the hotel that I've worked at for almost eight years...
for the last time.

As some of our friends from here know, we are moving from Virginia to live just outside of Branson, Missouri starting this weekend. By midday Saturday, my lady & I should be well on our way. Our route will be interesting to say the least: driving through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, head into West Virginia, cut into Kentucky, clip the southern parts of Indiana & Illinois, then skirt St Louis and head southwest.

Why are we doing this? Because there is nothing here for either of us in this one horse town. I grew up here and, with the exception of a few years away, have lived here for most of my life. There is only one industry where the big money can be made; everything else around here depends on that industry remaining. If that plant ever closes...

Another reason is that there is no social life whatsoever in this town. If we want to go for a decent night out, we have to drive almost two hours to the Va. Beach/Norfolk area. This means that one of us has to be the designated driver (trust me, the cops around here are tough). Plus, living in a small town means that damn near everybody knows what everybody is doing. So if we wanted to play, we would have to be extra damn careful to be discreet or else it would be all over town.

My lady & I have been talking about moving for the past couple of years. We had thought about moving back to her hometown, New Orleans, but the hurricane kicked that idea in the head. There was talk about us moving down to North Carolina, but those plans never came to fruition. We had a lot of people telling us, "You should do this, you must do this, you have to do this..." But there was one friend, one of the first friends we made on this site, who remained quiet, standing off to the side. When my lady was talking about how dismal things were looking around this area, this friend quietly said, "Have you ever considered moving to this area? The job market is booming, and the area has lots of things to do." My lady and I thought about it and decided that we needed to take a chance while we were both young enough to do something about it. Our kids are grown and don't need us; they need to grow now and live as adults. We continued talking with our friend and before we knew it, we not only have jobs as soon as we get there, but we have a place to stay for the time being.

There are some good things coming out of this. One of the big pluses, if not the biggest, is that my lady & I can sleep together. I know, laugh; but with me sleeping days while she sleeps nights, we haven't had much of a life as a couple. With both of us working evenings, we will be getting home before 11pm, spending some time relaxing, then snuggling into bed together. We can't wait. From what our friend has told us, we will be able to get out and walk during the day and evening. Where with live now, we can't do that easily. Plus, we will have mornings to go exploring Branson and the surrounding area. The house we will be at sits on the bank of a lake, so I can go fishing again!!!

Our families are a bit stunned, but they'll get over it soon. And I think they're glad for us to start out on our new adventure.

Regrets? Not really, just wish we'd done this sooner, but at least we are doing it. How many people sit and grow old thinking about when they had a chance to make a new start and didn't take it? My lady and I refuse to be part of that crowd.

Yes, we will miss our kids and our grandkids, but it's not like we're going to another planet. We will be back to Virginia soon enough for a visit. Both of us do feel a little sadness in that we had just gotten to know [blog goddess1946] and the three of us really hit it off well. Now, just as we start a friendship with her, we are leaving so suddenly. We were also starting to get to know some of the bloggers from the area, but I hope all understand that this is something that we have to do.

But on the flip side of this, we have found out that we will be very close to several friends that we've met here on AdultFriendFinder. When we phoned them and told them of our plans, they were ecstatic and said they can't wait until we get settled in so we can get together for a M&G. We can't wait either.

So my friends, the Dark Fortress will be silent for a little while, I'm not sure how long. Don't worry, we're not going away for good, but we have to get settled in and start our new jobs as soon as we get there. The stories I've been working on will be posted as soon as I can finish them up.

I want to thank all of you who have been so supportive for my lady and I over the past few weeks and months. When there were times she or I were ready to quit this site, you, my friends have found it in your hearts to say, "Stick around for awhile, we're here." To those of you that we're moving a little closer to, we can't wait to finally meet most of you. To those who think that we're moving further away, well, now's a good reason to take a vacation to Branson, don't you think?

May the universe shower all of you with the blessings you deserve and keep you safe until we meet again.

NG61...takes a bow at center stage with his lady, then taking her hand and disappearing into the least for a little the lights in the Dark Fortress slowly go dim...

"And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"

There is no dark side of the moon really...matter of fact, it's all dark...

Another of the staples of my morning diet changes...

There have been two consistent things about my early mornings for a while... MzHuny and you.

My best wishes to you both. I have no doubt that this will work out, as I've heard a number of good things about Branson.

I shall patiently wait for your return...

At least you're returning, unlike the other two I've lost in the last week....

Okay...if this isn't bizarre NG... I was wanting to edit my blog settings(on top) and I have been sitting here thumbing through the lyrics On that very CD jacket!!...and I just almost put the exact verse on my blog!! That is way cool! And I click on here and here it is!! This blows mine freakin

After reading this I want to welcome you to the Show Me State!
I know you are going to just love living outside of Branson. There's a fine balance of entertainment yet serenity there.
It truly is a wonderful and beautiful land to plant yourself in.
I wish you and your lovely lady many happy loving years there...I think you both will be very pleased! Safe travels...and safe returns, we shall await you! Kisses to you both!

As you both know,, NG,, i wish you both luck for in the future... Change is a good thing!! Just never change who Yyou both are...

The Course of Life, Time, And Events and The Process of Change

Time or fate may separate friends, lovers,
But friendship or love that's true will ever
Thenceforth continue to live forever,
True love conquers the odd with its power.
As time passes by, things change with the time,
Every moment, hour, day, month, and year,
All things have their turn to change with the time,
Life, time, and events change with the years.
Everyone, everything, have a time and day,
A time to change, end, begin a new day,
Change is life, the course of life everyday,
All things change, and we change with them all days.
Only the Eternal one is constant,
All things in the universe, inconstant,
But despite it all, love is important,
The world may change, but true love is constant

Now won't last forever, so use it wisely~c

But I'm sorry that I missed the opportunity to meet the two of you while you lived close to me. Now, Branson is a place I've always wanted to come and see. So, who knows.

But best wishes for a safe and exciting journey for the two of you. Being a Navy wife for 23 years, I've had my share of moves, both near and far. So, you're leaving hurricane country for tornado alley......all exciting. My love and prayers go with you on this next chapter in your lives. Good luck in Branson. I've been there several times and my parents live near there.

It's a beautiful area. It's also not very populated aside from the strip so you'll be able to do plenty of exploring once you get there.

A fun way to get outdoors and meet people there is to locate a local grotto (caving club). If you do a search on the National Speleological Society, you should be able to find a state society and a local chapter. The members are a pretty eclectic group and they'll host novice trips once in awhile if you need the experience.

Good luck and good wishes. And when you get settled go check out my friend Darren Romeo he is a master magician and is playing somewhere in Branson. You will enjoy his show.

I just got back in town and show up here to find your off to a new adventure. Salute!

Driving through the Shenendoa's, and Kentucky is so beautiful. I used to live in Virginia, grew up there, and I concur on the VA BEach cop thing. My X made damn sure we met a few from time to time. No they are not nice people.

Hope you have a wonderful trip, and look forward to seeing you back at Blogville.

Wow! - big step NG - All the best to you and NGs_Lady - hope that you have fun and find all the excitement that you expect.
I am sure the hotel will miss the Night Guy . . . does this portend a change of handle?

Thank you for all your advice and tales - tragic and amusing. . . they have been a part of my life. I hope to hear / see more of them.

All the best - bon voyage.
