Have a great holiday weekend

NOTE: This was originally known as The Christmas Guest as done by the bluegrass great Grandpa Jones. With a little wordsmithing, I thought it could be retold as a good Easter story...NG61

Some friends stepped into the all night diner Easter morning to find the old man cleaning up the diner, making things shine. "I had a dream last night," he said, "The Lord came to me and said 'I will be your guest on Easter Day'".

The friends knew the old man had spent the past few years alone since his wife had passed away, so they were glad to see him so cheerful. They left him busily scurrying about, cleaning and shining, waiting for his special guest.

After they left, the old man heard a noise outside and rushed to see his Lord...but it was only a beggar rummaging through the trash, looking for something to eat. The old man motioned for the beggar to come in and sit. He fed the beggar and, giving him some money, sent him down the street.

As the day turned to noon, the old man heard another noise. Rushing outside, his heart fell. It wasn't his Lord, but an old woman carrying bags of cans...her shoes tattered and barely on her feet. The old man helped her inside, took her burden off her tired shoulders. He rummaged around in the back room and found some old shoes left by a waitress long ago. They were dirty, but better than what the old woman had...which was hardly nothing at all. After feeding her and finding an old wagon in the back alley for her large bundles, the old woman shuffled away.

As the day turned into evening, the old man became worried. 'Where was his special guest?', he thought. Suddenly, he heard another noise in the street. Rushing to the door, he stopped to see a small child crying his eyes out. "Please help me...I'm lost and I can't find my way home", the child sobbed. The old man took the crying child in hand and took him inside. He fed him some ice cream and gave him some candy. Locking the diner, the old man took the child in hand and started down the street, until the child saw a street he recognized. The child hugged the old man tightly, then ran home.

As the old man returned to the diner, his heart was almost breaking, for the sun was setting and his guest had not appeared. He sat at the table, set so beautifully for his Lord. As tears filled his eyes, he clasped his hands and prayed:

"Lord, what did I do? Have I offended you? I thought you said I would see you on this day, the day you defeated death."

The old man continued sobbing. Then, he heard a soft voice speaking to him. Looking up, he saw a bright light with the face of his Lord smiling down at him. The Lord God spoke:

"Lift up your eyes, I kept my vow.
You welcomed me in...3 times now.

I was the beggar with nothing to eat,
and I was the woman
with no shoes on her feet.

I was the child, scared and sad,
until one took away the pain & made me glad.

3 times I knocked, 3 times I came in;
and all 3 times, I found the love of a friend.

Of all the Easter gifts, Love is the best
I was honored to be Your Easter Guest!"

From the House of NG61 and his lady...may all of you have a happy and safe holiday weekend with your loved ones

I am glad to see someone post about love and Easter. I think so many of the Holidays have become a time for money spending. What ever happened to a phone call a card. In this day and age maybe an e-mail is more in order or an IM. Just a kind word goes so far with people. So if i may on your blog HAPPY EASTER TO ALL from both of us.
With hugs and love

Thank you, papy

See what a bitter world weary cynic can write after working all night with too much coffee, too many cigarettes, too little sleep, and a pissed off view of the world?

NG, I hope both you and your lady have a very enjoyable Easter weekend. I myself will be blessed with the presence of the one who has become my life early Sunday morning...at a time and place I have not been for quite a while......

Again, my best wishes to you and yours...including your son and his family.

Thank you....I'm glad that your Sunday mornings are so blessed.....so few of us have such an opportunity. Many go through life wondering, wishing, hoping for such an opportunity.....

and never get it.
