Gone fishing

I park my truck and relax...
The moon is full, low in the sky...
The stars look down, cold and afar.
My yearly renewal is at hand...

Looking out over the water, I feel old memories returning...
Thoughts of days gone by
With old friends and
Family members long gone...

I grab my rod & reel...
My cooler and pier buddy in tow,
I make my way to a deserted spot on the weathered pier...

As I tie on a lure,
I feel I'm tying up the loose ends
Of a chaotic life
One that's semi out of control...

I make my cast, listening to the whine of the reel...
Like a song that urges me to join in...
I hear the splash in the darkness...
As I join in again in a timeless tradition...

I sip my coffee, light a smoke...
I look out over the Bay,
The lights of the bridge,
The cars zooming by, to who knows where...

I have but one other person with me
Further down the pier.
He nods, I respond
Lost in our thoughts, relaxed in our actions

I see a storm over the Eastern Shore
Lightning dancing
As if a god is showing off.
Far enough to be safe, but still a sight to see...

I hear my dad, bragging as usual...
I hear my Grandfather, giving advice...
I hear my Grandmother as she reels one in...
I hear my past, my future and the present...

In one song...as I fish...just fish...

As the one who loves you above all. Please please take time this year to do just that GO FISHING. Just relax be the man I know you are the man I LOVE. Be at piece with the universe and the ones you loved that are gone.

With a tear for the ones no longer with us that we both loved.

Love, Hugs and Respect from the one that loves You.

not a thing like it in the world - a lake so still it's like a mirror, the birds just stirring awake, standing in waders, the water freezing your toes, the whirr of the caste and the endless circles on the surface asthe lure enters

hangs out a sign

I loved the idea of hearing your past, present and future in a memory and experience. Beautifully written.

i like fishing. it is a nice time to reflect and sometimes be alone. Just a rod and the enviroment....the unbroken stillness and yet the noise of nature. A time to just sit and reflect as we wait for the One to bite. Peace. Blessed and rare a catch as one can angle for sometimes in their lives. *smiles and wishes to be on a riverbank myself rod in hand. Baiting my own hook and making a far cast...*

I have a cross stitch picture with the slogan

"Fishing isn't a matter of life or death; it's much more important than that!"

Does that tell you how I feel about fishing?

"Lightning dancing

That is so very beautiful! To be alone and to experience such peace with provate thoughts - that is an evolved person!

Thank you...not bad for a knuckledragging male, now ain't it?

How can I explain this ? There was a period in my life not too many years ago, when I wake at 4:00 in the morning, grab my fishing gear and head to the jetties. I used to fish for what we call here "tog". I would also bring me with a camera, a good book to read and my writing books. During the most terrible time in my life, I had also found the most profound peace on those jetties. Just me, the sea, a few of my favorite things ... and if I got lucky, a tog or two for supper.

I long for those days and know that one of the few "real" desires I have, is to go back there and find that peace again.

Profoundly moved by this post today !

Huntress,

I hear you...fishing helps to 'center' me...hard to explain...plus, a few croaker or spot for frying isn't bad either.

We need to go fishing, dear lady
