Another Park Another Sunday

" I'm sittin' in my room, I'm starin' out my window
And I wonder where you've gone
Thinking back on the happy hours just before the dawn
Outside the wind is blowin'
It seems to call your name again
Where have you gone
City streets and lonely highways
I travel down
My car is empty and the radio just seems to bring me down
I'm just tryin' to find me
A pretty smile that I can get into
It's true, I'm lost without you

Another lonely park, another Sunday
Why is it life turns out that way
Just when you think you got a good thing
It seems to slip away

It's warm outside, no clouds are in the sky
But I need a place to go and hide
I keep it to myself
I don't want nobody else
To see me cryin' all those tears in my eyes

Another park, another Sunday
Why is it life turns out that way
Just when you think you got a good thing
It seems to slip away
Another park, another Sunday
It's dark and empty thanks to you
I got to get myself together
But it's hard to do "

I wish I could say that I wrote this song but I didn't. As a matter of fact it was a song written by Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers for their 1974 album "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits". I really like this song and album allot actually. If you ever get to hear the song .. listen to how it flows. The thing that makes me like the song are the dreamy guitars (the chorus effect attached to some or the soft phasing sounds, which of course were typical of this period) and the chord progression (which by the way I am in the midst of transcribing so for all you guitar players out there let's speak a different language for a second, so far what I have is: E, EMaj7,BM,BM7,D,A,A/G#,F#M,Em,F#m7,G,F#m, for the verses and some of the chorus but don't worry, the rest will be forthcoming and yes, I do play guitar!) is what really adds to the element of the song. Of course the backing vocals help as well. It really sounds like a Eagles song meets Poco too.

I like the lyrics and how they reflect on what he, the character, wants and what he's thinking. In some ways I can relate to this song because I was thinking about things in my life (and in particular relationships both past and present with the opposite sex) on Saturday afternoon and this song came across my WinAmp and made me think of someone a little more.

I think the song gave me that peaceful and easy feeling about things that day and it helped me take stock of things. And oddly enough, I did go through a park that day.

So I have to ask everyone:

Is there a song that helps you think about things and helps you make sense of things? If so, why?

"Horse With No Name" by America and "Roundabout" by Yes

Reminds me of the days I used to spend riding my bike out through the countryside, my little AM radio in my bicycle basket, and the wind whipping through my hair.

"Lil"

DirtyLilSecret61: Those are such wonderful choices! As a matter of fact I put on my America mp3 of that and was just playing along with it. I think "Roundabout" is a little out of reach for acoutic play!

Anyways .. such happy memories I am sure. It has to be nice that they remind you of thise times when you were growing up. Of course too I hope you had better luck with bikes then it seems! *lol*

Oddly enough for me one of the most powerful songs I hear is Christopher Franke's "sleeping in the light". It's the last suite from the Babylon 5 show and always reminds me of the people I knew when the show was aired and how ew of them are still around.

There's also Grapes of Wrath's "all the things I wasn't", xtc's "dear god", Beborn Beton's "New Born King", and of course VnV Nation's "dark angel" (come to think of it, the whole album 'Empires' really).

Danzig's "Black Aria", and Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells III (only when performed though or played loud in the right rooms).

the oldie in me can't resist Louis Armstrong's "wonderful world" and most of the Beatle's softer ballads like "Hey jude".

BTW - did you have any luck finding the album for VnV nation ?

cynfull_one : Quite the interesting choices my dear! I hope when we're in your car driving about you can play some of these songs for me. Of course I think having Bocelli cranked while we're parked at a red light would have some people wondering what the hang is happening!

Be Good Tanya's .. I like that song the "The Littlest Bird" such a fun song to play on guitar when I hear it!

Tejinashi: "All The Things I Wasn't" .. what a classic! And I am STILL working on that VnV!

Hello...This post is to remind you about the Blogger's Convention scheduled October 21,22,23 and set for the ChicagoLand area(Bolingbrook--a suburb)

It is a chance for you to meet the folk that you have been reading, commenting, and chatting with. Before we go any further, this is NOT a giant sex orgy but a chance to interact with your new found blogging friends face-to-face.

The opening night festivities are still in the planning stage.(I need to have an actual head count on that before I can proceed and make commitments to the banquet facility. But in the plans are a Masked Ball--expected to be a lavish formal affair)

The 46 Zone Party will be held on the evening of the 22nd at the 46 Zone bar attached to the Ditka Dome(enclosed sports dome facility with an indoor driving range) Typically the bar has a live band on Saturday nights (no cover charge to date) The food and drink costs there are reasonable and one can imbibe for about twenty bucks.

There will be an "after" party on the 21st after the Masked Ball; and a "before" and "after" party on the 22nd in the hospitality suite at the hotel to continue on with the festivities. These parties will have food and alcohol/soft beverages and will be bought in bottle form with appetizer platters from local stores. The bar in the hospitality suite would be a serve yourself type of set-up.

The hotel is new and nicely furnished. Complimentary breakfasts are included with the room; the hotel has a pool, workout facility, complimentary wi-fi service, in-room coffee makers, mini refrigerators, iron & ironing board, and laptrays to support your laptops. There is a complimentary coffee bar located off the lobby area which is available 24 hours for a selection of coffees, teas, and hot chocolate. Hotel rates are reasonable and information can be found at Convention Information Pictures of the hotel and its rooms are also available for you to see.

In the works is a photo session opportunity as well as some classes/demos.

If you have not already done so, you are also invited to join bloggers of this friendly site The group was designed to address the technical aspects of blogging, but has metamorphosized into something much more--a "family" of bloggers...many of who will be attending the upcoming Convention.

Thank you for your time and I hope to meet you in person.

Playful
